An exterior can be misleading

I wrote this poem to show that an exterior can be misleading...


Peaceful image, the creature lying on the grass on one side
Eye closed
Feathers bristling in the breeze
A soft green bed to rest upon in gentle sleep

A curious stick lifts the carcass and tips it over revealing
An open cavity
And inside…oh inside…
Writhing twitching maggots
Rotten organs and liquid matter
Ugly death vile expressionless puke
