I saw my father today
dying in his bed
I couldn't see the face I knew
the eyes staring from his head
His skinny drooping arms
reached out across the room
and loosely held my hand
so I could share his doom
I barely felt his squeeze
passing through his veins
This broken man strength
etched in mortal pain
Of a withered grey body
distended out of shape
holding onto my small hand
to temper him to fate
