Rhyme or Reason
I come here to wander through the threads
to choose one
like that mysterious looking book in the library
the red one
leaving the others, perhaps better ones, behind
but there's one
is it the title, the poet, the mood I'm in
a good one
to stoke my fire, to stroke my sensibilities
only one
no rhyme or reason for my choice but need
ampoule, May Second, TwoThousandNine

Interesting to encounter you in a more than usually laid-back, confiding mood... I like it for that feeling precisely, one of those poems that have no aspirations to be or replace The Wasteland, but more like a chat between a couple of old friends...
By the way, if you still haven't found the book to suit your need might I suggest The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo by Stieg Larsonn or The All-true Travels and Adventures of Lifie Newton, by Jane Smiley?

Hi ampoule! I love the relaxed repitition of the lines with 'one'.At first I thought the last line deserved something after it, like them, but now reading it again I like it the way it is. Great work! :)

Thank you.
When I log in to this site there are usually so many new poems to read I usually don't have time to read them all. So I look up and down the list and choose one or two. There have been so many threads that say something like, 'my first poem', and I usually pass those by. But that day, that's exactly what I chose and the poem inspired me.
Thanks for the choice of book ideas, Prince. I'm reading Three Cups of Tea for book club right now. I'll check 'em out though.

Hey that's great! We should make this the official lit net poem. How about it mods?

Ampoule, I forgot to tell you yesterday when I first read this is
that your poem made me think about old books so finely crafted that one could actually see "threads" throughout the binding. (Of course, I'm talking about library books -- who can even afford trade paperbacks now?) Also, many Bibles and missals used to have silky edges on the tops of their pages.

These are the kind of books I like to open and smell old or new. Maybe that sounds wierd, but I've loved the smell of well bound books since I was a child.
Very evocative poem, Amp.
