View Full Version : Habemus papam
I was foruming and my mum called me cos in tv they were showing the new Pope.
Well by now you probably know it's Joseph Ratzinger and he will be called Benedictus XVI.
He was among the close collaborators of the previous Pope anyway, so it's not so surprising... I would have liked a South American or a black one. But nevermind, after the excitment for see the news live on tv, I won't be that interested anymore...
Not sure this topic is of interest here, maybe I should have put it in the religious section? It's news anyway :)
What about a female Pope? Can even women become a Pope?

Um...no, they can't. If I say more I'll be accused of pot-stirring, or pot-smoking, or something, but no...the do not allow women to become pope.
Thought so... why am I not surprised? And I, as well, should consider to just can it before I say something... not nice :p

I remember the last time they elected a new pope (well the last 2 times actually) It was of a great interest to me then, all that history and the meaning behind everything.
That was awfully quick, now I guess the news media can stop speculating on who it will be. I think I even heard that they were placing odds in Vegas.
They'd place odds on anything in Vegas, right? :p Isn't the whole city about stuff like betting and... such? :p

Just pointing out for the record that I was not the one who said that!
Now me and the dancing nana are gonna fire up another one and practice blowing smoke rings.
Come on nana.
Don't mean to sound too... pain in the butt, but 'we have a pope' would be 'papam habemus' but then I kinda failed the Latin course... ok, I did fail it.
well i proudly forgot my 5 years of that overrated subject called latin but i wrote that message just 2 minutes after hearing the guy announcing it on tv, so i just reported the words. And by the way word order in latin doesnt matter cos of the cases (kind like in Czech too, maybe?) so wherever you put a word you'll always know its grammatical function anyway...unlike in Italian where the position of the word can make a huge difference.
(I've always warned you: dont get me started on languages )
Btw, my dad suggested that they elected a German so that the Germans tourist would come back to Italy cos in the past few years they havent invaded it as much as before :D Which actually DOES make sense.
Yes they choose the name and Benedictus was chosen cos the previous Benedictus was against the was (first world war at the time) and for another reason I dont remember.
There is pretty much nothing else in the news today, I actually wacthed like 20 minutes of news all day, and 15 were about that.
Don't mean to sound ignorant or whatnot, but I don't really care who the pope is. Neither what nationality he is. Anyone capable of explaining to simple me why 'we' need a pope anyway? To watch an old guy waving at the sick and the poor from his balcony (or wherever he is at that time) and hearing him (well, maybe it's mostly the followers) telling anyone who happens to disagree that they're bad and evil people worhty only his (and the followers') pity and oh so holier-than-thou attitude?
Whoops, a bit anti-pope... does it show? :p
No, seriously, what is a pope good for?

Solitude, makes a grand entrance,to ignite this tiny fume with a marvelous reason.
One whom may even believe that this POPE should have made his appearance in a space suit out in space perhaps on the moon or even Mars, you know where all us Men come from, simply because of funding this infamous idiot's paradise, and the whole space program combined could feed and water 3 bloody continent's for about a decade. How's that for electional pope-struck color standard criticism?
Not too much of an idea about what you said, songfuse, but I do like your location, could you save me a place? Hope the countryside is nice and silent there.
Ok, that was a bit random *shrugs*

You have been reserved in a location only known by Two of the GODS,
It is a place where the Unicorn used to roam.Even serenity has her beach.
Though I really don't get most of what you say, I like it, it sounds ... different.

Whoa, nice . Now I wish I could visit that place at the times when the Unicorns still used to roam that place... any chance of that, songfuse? I wouldn't be angry (not at all) if I got to see a few dragons as well.

In suit,what brought you here?
Was it that you have something in mind?
Or perhaps, just to be softly entertained by a portion of gossip in the world?
Art thou tis a burden upon sadness's quilt?
May I propose to you a bit of chuckle to broaden your skies?
here goes,I once took an insurance policy out on this little flower that used to grow above me?Well the land lubbers collapsed my poor hollow home including me,and the result of all of my work is strumming million's of miles across the Sahara.
You wanna know what the hell is so funny about all this, well I'll tell ya,I am being cremated as we speak... and that's the truth sbbbbbsbbbbb

"Run for your lives the dragons are loose!"
If you step outside of your place presently reside,
Find a harmless little spot beneath the shade, close your eyes brightly whirlling,
Take 3 deep breaths, eyes closed, now quiet your fragrant mind, softly, and think of nothing, only listen, listen, listen. You can see a dragon,a griffin,or even a nymph, especially if you are near the water, these are all around you. They've been here for a time, what a human creates,is godlike, being that we are spawn of something greater than ourselves. As there are many dimensions, consuming time. Now I won't bore you with any more, but you must open your eyes Jay,the air in front of you breathes, with a celestial liquid wickedness, but purely wonderous and sparkling.
So many distractions have caused this magic to be swayed, you are never alone even when you sing charms while dreaming. Your breath is shared by souls Angelic.
I must go now...

I was reading today the local newspaper and I found the Pope's e-mail if you want to send him a letter.
[email protected]
If you have some reason to e-mail him or ask him to say a pray for you this is your chance.
LOL @ the email... It's probably a fake one anyway.
I don't know what we need a pope for, I think we should ask 'them', those who need it. But I just love important moments of history, and this was. Like a new government or the Olympic games (which, by the way, what do we need for?). If you start thinking about what's really needed you just stop living, cos probably pretty much nothing is.

Now, I'm wondering as well..I dont know the number of Catholic population in the world and what's the majority of race (chinese, black, latin) who embarace Catholicism...Do you think it has something to do with that?

Catholics in the world= approx. 1.2 billion (1 in 6 people now living)
50% of those following the Catholic faith live in latin american and/or developing (3rd world) countries.
Data compliments of the recent deluge of info in the media because of the action packed goings on at the vatican in the last month.

I dont understand what you are wondering about (me slow), why that choice?
