I need help, I'm getting tired of the music in my MP3. I need suggestions for new stuff, I know this opens up a whole crap ton of possibilities so this is a sampling of my cd collection:

Jimmy Buffett
Lyle Lovett
Anything 80's , especially hair bands
Queens of the stone age
White Stripes
Audioslave
My Life with the thrill kill kult (in small doses)
Cake
Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert
Old Metallica
Ted Nugent
Led Zepplin and all that 70's psychedelic rock in small doses

i'd go with old Metallica, the Led Zepplin, and the 80's hair bands.

Try some Mott the Hoople, then some Billy Bragg, then some Ian Hunter solo material, then Ziggy Stardust (if you haven't already).

For Mott the Hoople, I'd suggest the "Mott" album.

For Billy Bragg, the compilation "Must I Paint You a Picture"

For the Ian Hunter solo material, the self-titled album or the new album called "Rant."

Then you can break out of your rock n' roll rut and listen to some Miles Davis and some Beethoven.

as I always say:
depeche mode
even if it's a bit of a particular style, electronic... you wouldnt survive their old stuff so i adivse you albums like Ultra or Songs Of Faith and Devotion, which tends a bit more to rock.
Oh, I saw later that you like 80s, so go with anything DM. They were quite hairy at times...

and
The Cure
Placebo
Foo Fighters (listening to that a lot lately)
Paradise Lost (I love the albums Believe in Nothing and Host)
Garbage
Joy Division (early 80s)
The Smiths (very 80s but rock)

and I'll think of more 80s hair... ;)

At random:

Phantom Power - Super Furry Animals
White Pepper - Ween
Acme - The John Spencer Blues Explosion
The Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks
Wowee Xowee - Pavement.

You'll probably hate them all, but if you like '80's hair bands' then anything is worth a shot - right?

Listening to Elton John right now. Everyone else my age thinks that's weird, but all my friends seem to listen to is Usher, Usher, and occasionally Usher. Oh yeah, and once I heard them listening to Usher. My favorite band of all time is Oasis, which I only discovered about two years ago; apparently they were popular here in the US in the 90s, but my siblings didn't listen to them and I was only 10 or 11 by the time the 90s ended. Anyway, my favorite solo artist is Josh Groban, and if you like anything of a more "popera-ish" persuasion, Andrea Bocelli is also pretty cool. At the moment I'm really liking Feeder, who I've only heard recently. They're what my friend Ash calls "girly rock", along with Snow Patrol who are also ace. Have been a fan of Franz Ferdinand and The Killers for a while, and they seem to have suddenly become pretty popular recently. Oh, Muse is also a big favorite of mine, along with The Verve, The Cure, U2, Train, and John Mayer. Other random artists (in backwards alphabetical order, since I'm scrolling through my mp3 player): Tom Petty, The Verve Pipe, The Stone Roses, The Rolling Stones, The La's, The Charlatans, The Byrds, The Bluetones, Supernaturals, Sum 41, Suede, Straylight Run, Smile Empty Soul, Smashing Pumpkins, Simon and Garfunkle, Shed Seven, Seether, Sarah MacLachlan, Razorlight, Queen, Primal Scream, Norah Jones, Nat King Cole, My Chemical Romance, Live, Kasabian, Judy Garland, John Rzeznik, John Lennon, John Cougar Mellencamp, Jewel, Jet, Jason Wade, James, Hoobastank, Green Day, GooGoo Dolls, Fuel, Foo Fighters, Five for Fighting, Embrace, ELO, Edwin McCain, Don McLean, Denver Harbor, Coldplay, Bush, Blur, Billy Joel, Avril Lavigne (I'm so ashamed), and Aerosmith.

But, don't forget: The Beatles! The other day my boyfriend said something like, "That haircut went out with the Beatles." Okay, so he was mocking me, but the point is...The Beatles never go out!

Oh, and you mentioned Queens of the Stone Age...my boyfriend likes them, and he also listens to the Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, and The Killers in particular, if that helps at all.

Godspeed you! Black Emperor
Circle Takes the Square
Bright Eyes
Immortal Technique

There's some alternative ambient, hardcore, alternative normal, and real hip-hop. That's about as much recommendation as I can give.

I haven't changed my location yet (as some others have pointed out), I moved from Michigan (Suburb of Detroit) to Kansas City back in March.

I love Rage Against the Machine, and because of Morello I'm really liking Audioslave also.

This morning they played "Under the Bridge" and now I have a yearning for my Red Hot chili Peppers CD, which unfortunatly are still in Michigan. :brickwall

Right now I am listening to Anthony and the Johnsons , the album " I am a bird now". It might be addictive. He has the voice of a male Nina Simone. If you think you might like that, I would really recommend it.

Very much. On this album he sings alot about gender and change. There is a freedom in his wievs that I find appealing.

Quote from one of his lyrics:
"One day I will grow up and be a beautiful woman,
one day I will grow up and be a beatiful girl.
For today I am a boy.
For today I am a child"

Who's Nina Simone? what type of music?

Nina Simone was a jazz singer called "High Priestess of Soul", she has a rich dark androgynous voice.

I do not know what to call Anthonys music. It´s not jazz. Ont the record label you can download small mp3 samples, just to get to hear some of the music.

Matty Groves

A holiday, a holiday, and the first one of the year.
Lord Darnell's wife came into church, the gospel for to hear.

And when the meeting it was done, she cast her eyes about,
And there she saw little Matty Groves, walking in the crowd.

“Come home with me, little Matty Groves, come home with me tonight.
Come home with me, little Matty Groves, and sleep with me till light.”

“Oh, I can't come home, I won't come home and sleep with you tonight,
By the rings on your fingers I can tell you are Lord Darnell's wife.”

“What if I am Lord Darnell's wife? Lord Darnell's not at home.
For he is out in the far cornfields, bringing the yearlings home.”

And a servant who was standing by and hearing what was said,
He swore Lord Darnell he would know before the sun would set.

And in his hurry to carry the news, he bent his breast and ran,
And when he came to the broad mill stream, he took off his shoes and swam.

Little Matty Groves, he lay down and took a little sleep.
When he awoke, Lord Darnell he was standing at his feet.

Saying “How do you like my feather bed? And how do you like my sheets?
How do you like my lady who lies in your arms asleep?”

“Oh, well I like your feather bed, and well I like your sheets.
But better I like your lady gay who lies in my arms asleep.”

“Well, get up, get up,” Lord Darnell cried, “get up as quick as you can!
It'll never be said in fair England that I slew a naked man.”

“Oh, I can't get up, I won't get up, I can't get up for my life.
For you have two long beaten swords and I not a pocket-knife.”

“Well it's true I have two beaten swords, and they cost me deep in the purse.
But you will have the better of them and I will have the worse.”

“And you will strike the very first blow, and strike it like a man.
I will strike the very next blow, and I'll kill you if I can.”

So Matty struck the very first blow, and he hurt Lord Darnell sore.
Lord Darnell struck the very next blow, and Matty struck no more.

And then Lord Darnell he took his wife and he sat her on his knee,
Saying, “Who do you like the best of us, Matty Groves or me?”

And then up spoke his own dear wife, never heard to speak so free.
“I'd rather a kiss from dead Matty's lips than you and your finery.”

Lord Darnell he jumped up and loudly he did bawl,
He struck his wife right through the heart and pinned her against the wall.

“A grave, a grave!” Lord Darnell cried, “to put these lovers in.
But bury my lady at the top for she was of noble kin.”

Anyone into folk-rock, a must to listen to. Ms. Denny died of a brain hemorrhage at age 31, after a blow to the head. She had a 3 month old daughter, Georgia...and would have been a grandmother, had she lived. She was married to Trevor Lucas, who, also is now deceased.

As far as "solo artists" go Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Neil Young, Lou Reed.

Bands : if you like Metallica you should check out Iron Maiden and Pantera

Black Sabbath & Led Zeppelin are classic.

Forget about Audioslave and check out Rage Against the Machine.

Rancid, Suicidal Tendencies, old Deftones & Korn & Green Day...

I haven't seen much for blues mentioned so: Muddy Waters is great, Leadbelly and Robert Johnson (real old-time, likely not a good recording but the voices still come across as eerily great) Howlin' Wolf (did 'Spoonful' which was remade by Cream and Backdoor Man redone by the Doors among others). That'd be a good start.
