When you are starting to get sick do you reach for the phone to make a doctors appointment or for your book of home remedies?
I do both.

I'm uninsured so I always try home remedies first. I have to be really bad off to call a doctor.

I just tried gargling with a cayenne papper/water solution to relieve a sore thoat. It says I should do it every few hours - we'll see what happens. There is also a remedy to gargle with apple cider vinegar, I may try that as well.

gargling salt is supposed to be good.

I've gargled with cayenne pepper solution then I gargled with apple cider vinegar. Neither was much fun but we'll see if it helps.

All I have ever heard was to gargle with salt. But I was told to do it with hot water. Not scalding, of course, but as hot as you can tolerate it. It has helped me before.
As for which I do, I guess both. I have no insurance right now, too. So, I have to be pretty desperate to go to the doctor.

It depends on the illness.
There are things I can handle myself, but there are those I can't.
I tend to wish to handle everything I can by myself.
And, still, doctors not always throw antibiotics on you like this ... :crash: blast if they did!~

I don't know if it was the pepper, the apple cider vinegar, or if it was just time but my sore throat is mostly gone.
My mama is a homeopath so i'm natural remedies all the way.
This may cause a controversial discussion but, I have also not been immunized for one thing. Nothing at all. And I NEVER, EVER get sick. At all.
I only get sick if I get immunized, so heck with that.

^__^ I'm not immunized against anything, either, mostly through personal choice since I was about eleven. Breaks down your bodies natural defenses.
Anywho... Canadian. Free health care. If it's bothering me enough, I'll go to the doctor, because I know I don't have to worry about paying anything. My Mum's benefits also cover all prescriptions, etc.

Home remedies... I have a potion for practically anything. My dad is big on that too - he and I have even performed minor surgery on various family members and friends, and so far with unqualified success. I can't actually remember the last time I went to the doctor...

... What, did they die or something?
:cold:
..what kind of surgeries..

Hmm, neither unless a week has passed. I usually just fight through it, and whine to all that can hear. I've been immunised against all sorts of things, seeing as my parents took me into the rainforest when I was only 2...

SuRgErY is something to which I am
completely & utterly
DISQUALIFIED ! ~
(I usually nearly faint, when I watch Saving Private Ryan, and the first time I watched Master & Commander too. And Black Hawk down ..).
I'd either be an excellent doctor or have given up in the first year.
(Fortunately, I'm in communications, at wars ... I think. 'Never been to one.)
I'd gladly fly a chopper  ...
Oops :D Quite strayed, here, haha!

Doctors All the Way. There is a reason they are some of the most educated people around.
I'm a firm believer in immunizing children. It's the reason why so many diseases have been almost completely irradicated. I'm also a firm believer in the use of antibiotics, etc. I am not a particularly healthy person, and I trust my doctor implicitly. To be quite honest, Lokasenna, the fact that you are untrained and have performed surgeries terrifies me.
I'm also a firm believer in vaccinating pets as well.
Maybe I'm a tad biased, as I plan on being a doctor myself (A vet to be specific).

Not at all! They worked brilliantly.
Things like ingrowing toenails... I wouldn't do brain surgery or anything dangerous!
