Sonnet #9
IX.br /br /Is it for fear to wet a widow's eyebr /That thou consumest thyself in single life?br /Ah! if thou issueless shalt hap to die.br /The world will wail thee, like a makeless wife;br /The world will be thy widow and still weepbr /That thou no form of thee hast left behind,br /When every private widow well may keepbr /By children's eyes her husband's shape in mind.br /Look, what an unthrift in the world doth spendbr /Shifts but his place, for still the world enjoys it;br /But beauty's waste hath in the world an end,br /And kept unused, the user so destroys it.br /No love toward others in that bosom sitsbr /That on himself such murderous shame commits.
