Our World Turned Away
We were sitting in the dust
beneath a winter sun,
one foot in tomorrow
while passing through yesterdays.
How the music made you smile
at least for a little while,
a yellow dress of spring,
the flowers that have yet to bloom.
In the day that welcomed the night
we liked to swim in the rain
while the radio played,
just another passing phase.
On the hour you had that look upon your face
as you gazed up into endless space,
how we used to dream down the sky,
now it wandered out of reach.
When our fingers always touched
right before we all fell to gathering the stars,
but it could never last, our living in between,
scattered as the blades of grass.
So let the rain wash us all away,
our hopes all turned to mud,
let us slip through the memories
that others come to pass.
