Hi, I just finished reading Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar and I would like to know what are your opinions on her depicting chronic depression. What did you feel when you finished it? Because I somehow feel optimistic about my life, though I am often down by this kind of books.
And what about the relationships among men and women in the novel? ;)

It's been a very long time since I read that so I can't recall much. I do not remember feeling overty depressed while reading it and I recall it being well written. Maybe I'll give it a re-read.

I recently finished the book and although the book did not depress me, I felt that Plath's sober, blunt and unemotional description of Esther's depression was very powerfull.
Do you think that Esther lived on or ended up successfully commiting suicide? I think that she survived

I think that she didn't stop trying to commit suicide, but still did not manage to do that.
