Wrote this one for me. Not very well structured but... :D It made me feel good.

You’re
All
Invited! -
To My Going-Away Party

“Come out, you students-
You teachers, you grads-
Come out!” The Piper calls,
His flute,
It joins in harmony.
“Come out, it’s leaving day!"

"Have you made the desk your grave,
Does May not 'wake your soul?
Can you be the master of your life
When you're whipped by expectation?

He said the world is anxious in its sleep,
But the wild's have their joys to keep - *
Do we fail when we let go?
When we get lost, when we need to

rest.

And work is fine, my mortal friends,
But Death has no set date -
So on this night, The Leaving Night,
Let's not make sweet Life wait."

Students rise
From the deep slumbers
Of the norms, of the expected,
Of the ‘you must’s and the ‘you need’s
The ‘conquer and succeed’s’
“Drink beer only on Saturday-
Have a Christian break on Sunday.”

“Come out, you students,
You teachers, you grads-
Come out!” The students scream,
Rushing from the doors, they cry:
“Come out, it’s leaving day!”

The teachers, half-afraid, walk out-
Their partying days were done
With graduations,
Dissertations,
Children and new cars-
Bacchanalian spirits grow-
Epicurus would approve.

“Come out, you students,
You teachers, you grads,
Come out!” The teachers cry aloud,
As Bird picked up his mandolin,
And the bands began to play.
“Come out, it’s leaving day!”

The grads glanced out at
Temptation below,
“But what about our time!?”
They screamed.
The teachers pulled them up, replied
“You get the time that everyone gets –
You a single life.”

In all his Grecian glory,
Dio brings the kegs of beer,
I sing my ballads on the stage,
As leaving time draws near –

Ms. Mortell is in a corner,
With a stranger, well alive
Dusk draws in with fireflies,
We dance, too life-deprived.

I give it to the DJ, then,
To the Beatles and Ms. Heap,
Gaga sings somewhere in there,
Muse’s bass rings deep.

Sorority Sally dances with
The nerd she never liked,
And awkward Jane is swaying now,
Real close to some ‘cool’ Pike.

My fae friends cheer - a job well done! -
And motion me away,
The trees I love now droop their boughs-
I kiss their dewdrop tears away.

“Dance away,” I whisper then,
And take Katie’s soft hand,
We dance away with Pan and friends,
And all is as it was planned.

And I’ll come back, I’m not done yet,
I just had to have my exit –
But just you wait, when Spring returns,
For my scintillating entrance.

Not at all! I can't drink too much because I'm a lightweight! And I start to want to cuddle with everyone and it's embarrassing. Well, YOU, mister - we'll TEACH YOU how to dance.

What kind of dancing do you think that you could teach me?

I've always wanted to learn how to clog dance...

An invitation like that would get even a shut-in like me to come along... That said, I will invariably gravitate to the kitchen...

Hey, there's still some partying left in this teacher! LOL I'll be over by the window sipping my Baileys and strumming my mandolin, intermittently, of course. :)
How fun.

The ages and stages of life, we remember them all. While I was reading your poem I thought of a song by Gene Watson called Farewell Party. Maybe it's because an older gentleman sang it at the jam I attended on Wednesday. I just quit playing and watched him sing it in his very beautiful voice, just like I would be watching you in all your youth and vitality.

Farewell Party

When the last breath of life is gone from my body,
And my lips are as cold as the sea,
When my friends gather 'round for my farewell party
Won't you pretend you love me?

There'll be flowers from those who cry when I'm gone,
And leave you in this world all alone,
I know you'll have fun at my farewell party,
I know you'll be glad when I'm gone.

Don't be mad at me for wanting to keep you,
Till my life on this old world is through,
You'll be free at the end of my farewell party,
But I'll go away loving you.
