Historic novel about the times of the inquisition in Spain. Two friends, one returns to Spain, helps to build the (new) cathedral, and the other one studies to become a priest. At the time the cathedral is nearly completed after years of toil the two friends see each other again, but because of the mason's arrest by the inquisition. The friend who became a priest is now his judge... Of course the friend faces a dilemma...

It looked good, not totally badly written judging by the first page, but is it good as a historic novel?

It is a bestseller, but hey, what does that mean?

Anyone of the more fussy people experience with this? Can't remember the writer I'm afraid...

I'm currently reading the book, but I am not enthusiastic about it. The writer is Ildefonso Falcones. Some parts are well-written, but I cannot say that I would warmly recommend it, it is a bit too "commercial", in my opinion.
