Radio Caller

It was early, seven something, washing dishes,
They were laughing, those radio people,
The question of the day,
"How do you eat your chocolate bunny?"

The majority go right for the ears, some the tail,
But I was lost in dishwater and thoughts of a song,
Chocolate, and I called them! I called them!
I became a radio caller, never before.

Now I have sung in front of hundreds of people,
For concerts, weddings, funerals, you name it,
But for the radio, no one to know, no one to see,
Heart racing, red faced, I sang for a chocolate egg.

...and here is what I sang...Happy Easter everyone...

Chocolate by the Chenille Sisters

Chocolate is great, chocolate is grand,
Melts in your mouth, melts in your hand,
Chocolate is love, mmm.
Chocolate is hip, chocolate is now,
Beans from Brazil, milk from a cow,
Chocolate is love, mmm.
Please don't mention the chemical connection chocolate makes in my head.
It's Swiss Miss I'm drinkin', eatin' Hershey bars and thinkin',
if I can't be in love I'll have a truffle instead.
Cocoa is warm, fudgesickles chill,
Whatever the form, it's always a thrill,
Chocolate is love, mmm.

So...how do you eat your chocolate bunny?

Ampoule, were you really a radio caller!? Did you really sing that!? If so, can we be best friends?! If not, can we still be best friends anyway?

That is SO adorable! Oh, what we ladies will do for chocolate, oh, what we'll do in WORSHIP of it! Well done, funny and upbeat!

I loved "Radio Caller"! I'm also jealous. It reminds me to finish the piece o verse I've been working on about radio callers. If I ever do finish and post it, everybody will think I "copied" you.
And you know what, Ampoule, they'd be right! "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!"

Ha ha, yes, wispy, I really did call in and sing that. So far, one person I know heard it live. And, yes about chocolate, too. I saw a tee shirt once that said, "In the beginning there was the word, and the word was....chocolate!" Cute huh?

Aunty, I am so thrilled you liked this poem. I cannot wait to read your radio caller poem. It certainly won't be a copy. Your poetry is wonderful and unique. Hurry.

I liked "Radio Caller" too. The last stanza seemed a little weak. Perhaps because it didn't push the poem toward something more profound. If you can turn the last stanza to have some gravtas, more than I sang on the radio, I think you've got a really good poem.

Haha, I listen to talk radio on my commute from work but I've never called. :D Good for you.

Adorable Easter poem, Amp. I wish I could have heard you sing the chocolate song.

As to how I eat my chocolate bunny, I have a favorite Easter cartoon that I'm sure is not mine alone. I bite the ears off one and the tail off a second one. Then I make them converse (in my best bunny voices):
" My butt hurts!"
"What?"

:D haha...that's hilarious.

And thanks, Virgil. Isn't it funny, I felt the last stanza was about a lot more than just singing on the radio, but more about how nervous I was without an audience and for only a chocolate egg. I have sung in front of many people and made lots more money, and though I am always a little nervous, nothing like on the radio that morning. I will work on it though. Thanks.
