if it came about that each of us could choose five words that nobody else could use, but those five words were ALL we could use, to compose poems with, communicate with friends, &c.

I think that when one has some five words, one can form something like Morse code and form meta-words based on those five to describe all the other things, thereby constructing a new language.

Sorry for breaking the game, but life with only five words would be so strange that to imagine what kind of words they would be makes no sense.

Lynne, Niamh: that leaves a mere 499,990 for the rest of us! But still, some excellent choices e.g. aardvark bellicose, corpuscle, dormant, elephant, funereal, gastronome, hegemony, idyll &c. &c.

TRULY excellent choices! Of course I do foresee a certain amount of difficulty if you were to attempt to write an epic poem with just those words or if you happened to be in Hungary, say, and you desperately needed to find a public bathroom ASAP.

I'll take the following:

1). The "F-Word": it's a verb, a noun, an adjective, a prefix etc. . .

2). Pizza -- I'll want this

3). River -- one of the world's great places

4). The verb: "to be" (not sure of multiple forms of English verbs count as one)

5. Beer -- if I can only have five words, I imagine I'll be depressed quite a bit. So I'll need a lot of number five.

Where
Can

Find
Beer

(Not really.)

I'd probably choose...

Serene
Stunning
Moon
Train
Move

I'd be limited. But I think anybody would with only five words at their disposal.
