What should be the maximum length of the books to be read in the Book Club? Please vote by April 25th.
PS: The minimum included in the poll is 450 pages (15 pages p/d) as we have already read +300 books in the Club.

I would say 1200 is pretty fair.

I take it you will be reading the books with us from now on, Stan ;)

indeed, I finally have that long searched for thing...free time. :D
Ahem, depends on how... 'interesting' the book is, lol. If it's 'reading itself' like The Crucible, no problem reading 50 pages per day... though... *checks the date* midterms
so I guess 20-25 pages per day (ahem, or about 75 per day if someone's a few days behind due to... stuff :p and the pasages are a bitty slow...)
So I think I'll second the 750 pages option :)

amatures! :D
900 pages (30 p/d) sounds like a fair enough maximum for me, so that, particularly, does not narrow down choices of books (unless we intend on reading Leo Tolstoy or The Oxford English Dictionary :D).

I voted 900 pages (30/day).. i s'pose it ultimately depends on how difficult the book is to read.. coz if it's very difficult some ppl might manage less pages a day... (it also depends on the font size.. if it's one of them penguin classics that make your head reel coz the letters are so small then i'd vote for less pages..).

If a book is longer than our max limit, we will read it in two months, instead of one month so our choices are still not limited.

You struck on a good point, we should perhaps generate a mathematical formula, based on font, and pages. because if the font is the size of ant droppings, and there is about 1200 pages, putting that into a normal font could double the ammount of reading.
There should be a standard I suppose.

Now the type of book we can read in decide by how many pages it has??

So what's the use of this poll anyway?

The use of this poll, Sub, to see how much time the members who participate in the Book Club are willing to dedicate to their Club reading. If a book is too long to be read in one month, then we will read it in two months.
I don't see how this can be interpreted as 'deciding the type of book we read by how many pages it has'. We are simply deciding how many pages on average we can read in the Club in one month.

Then, should we check the number of pages first before nominating a book? Also, when the max number has been decided, wouldnt' it make me hesistate to nominate a book which pages exist beyond the max limit...??
Scheherazade

We neither need to check the page numbers nor hesitate to nominate any book as we know that the book we will be read -if it is chosen- no matter how many pages it has. In two months if not one.

Plus, it also depends on the page size. There are many different and it changes a lot.

Not to mention the line spacing... is it double, one and a half or double?
Do we include the pages in Foreword/Introduction/Index by the way?
Foreword? ;)
Don't think so, it's usually only a couple of pages :)
Stan, Stan, Stan :D, no KitKats for you today ;):D
There goes 3000 ;)
And someone better vote or Scher the mighty mod will have to toss a coin :p

Please note that this polls closes tomorrow.
Uhm... the poll's closed now (at least it says so).
Sooo... who's the winner? lol
What now? New poll? 25 p/d and 40 p/d being the options? Or if you, the almighty mod, do want to flip a coin, let us know the results, okie? :p

I am not sure if we should be devoting more time to this. I will flip a coin.
Yes, you could try flipping a coin, or, as a compromise, taking the average number of pages between the two highest votes.
