DAGGER LOOKS AND BUTTER FLY KISSES

“GETITOFFME!!!!!!! “

A loud high-pitched scream tore off the silence of the garden benches as heads turned in all directions to search for the culprit.

“GET IT OFF ME YOU SCUM BAG OR I WILL RIP YOUR LUNGS OUT!!!!”

Kylie Nicolas screamed as Ron Allen Delos Santos looked on, crouching and laughing so hard he’s almost as purple as Barney.

Kylie, an aspiring architect let some buttons of her Fine Arts uniform to remove a dead lump of weed Allen slipped on her collars to surprise her.

“See, it’s just a dead grass, honey! What are you so afraid of?” Asked Allen, stomach still hurting because of suppressed laughter.

“That’s not funny you big twerp!!!” Kylie angrily snapped. “You are late. Thirty minutes and 28 seconds.” Kylie showing off her cuff watch.

“I know baby, that’s why I greeted you with a bang! See, you liked it, didn’t cha?” Allen naughtily said.

“Come here, honey….Just a bit closer. Closer. Closer.” Kylie demanded.

Allen puckered his lips as he leaned closer to Kylie getting himself ready for a real nice, hard smack.

“OOUCCHHH!!!!” Allen thought his ears were ripped off his head.

“Want some more, honey?” Kylie asked, smiling a bit knowing that she’s got served.

“That HURTS!” Allen complained, touching his right ear.

“I’m so sorry honey, I promise I won’t do it again, swear.” Allen prompted.

“You told me that the last time…” Kylie said with a hint of disappointment.

“Please? Forgiveness you’re Majesty? Please?” Allen now smiling, flashing his two small dimples and eyes fluttering.

“Let’s go. We’re late for class.” Kylie answered back.

The two headed for their Psychology Class. On their way, freshmen girls could not resist looking at Allen who stood almost 5’10”, fair skinned, really attractive and charming. Not to mention the killer smiles that girls wished they were Kylie.

Kylie still not getting over the dead weed incident clutched Allen’s arms closer to her as if saying “He’s mine. Back off.”

Kylie came from a not-so-affluent family, and if it weren’t for the University Scholarship granted to her she would rather not take Architecture in an elite-dominated campus. As the eldest of three siblings, she managed to finish her high school at a public school and graduated Valedictorian of her class. She is smart and sassy and can carry herself with confidence and looks really cute in her CAFA uniform. She stands just an inch below Allen’s shoulder and is really a jerky person. Nonetheless, she is a loving and responsible kid and a loyal girlfriend.

“Hi Allen!” Beamed Cassandra Enriquez, the beautiful muse of the Basketball Team.

“Oh, hi, Cassie!” Allen acknowledged.

“Meet you at Mr. Marasigan’s class!” replied Cassandra, strutting her way into the girl’s room to freshen herself with more make-up.

“*****.” Thought Kylie silently.

At the Psychology Class, Cassandra sat beside Allen claiming that they follow alphabetically arranged seats. Kylie just looked on because her surname, Nolasco had to be seated at the fourth row, overseeing the two at the second row. Jealous by nature, Kylie struggled to ignore Cassandra who obviously flirted with Allen and took down notes in her scented notebook.

“Care to explain, Ms. Nolasco, this premise? “ Mr. Marasigan drew Kylie’s class card for their graded recitation.

THE HEART HAS REASONS REASON ITSELF DOES NOT UNDERSTAND

“In my personal opinion, Sir, it means that when a person is in love, that person knows no boundaries, defies all laws and breaks all rules because he becomes blind and deaf to the cries of the world.” Kylie exclaimed, stressing out every word as if throwing them like daggers as Allen and Cassandra looked and listened.

“Excellent Ms. Nicolas! That’s very touching. I will give you an A+ for that.” Mr. Marasigan’s responded, marking her class card with his red pen.

“That’s my girl!” Thought Allen who was kept his eyes stuck on Kylie as she took her seat.

“Any other comments? Ah. Ms. Enriquez… I haven’t heard your lovely voice in a long time.” The professor pulled out another card.

“UHHM. AHHHH. ERRRR.” Cassandra stuttered and suddenly turned pale. Kylie silently rejoicing.

“You better read your books and study harder, young Miss, or else your grade in my class would not be as pretty as your face.” Mr. Marasigan’s warned the beauty queen.

Cassandra took her seat lowering her head and avoiding Allen’s eyes out of humiliation and anger.

The class ended with assignments on dead men’s theories and tons of essays and reaction papers.

Kylie and Allen went to the gymnasium upon Allen’s request to check their schedules and rehearsals. Allen is the Team Captain of the University’s official basketball team to the UAAP. He’s on his fifth year, also in Architecture, but because of the games, he dropped some subjects and became an irregular student, taking up remedial subjects. Some of his units were the same class Kylie was taking.

Sensing that Kylie was still mad at him, Allen stopped and looked at Kylie without blinking his eyes. Still not reacting, Allen led Kylie to the courtside bench and asked Kylie to sit beside him.

“Are you still mad at me? I said I was sorry.” Allen asked Kylie while holding her hand.

“I’m not mad. I just didn’t like the way you flirted with Cassie” Kylie sheepishly replied, avoiding eye contact.

“Flirting? I never flirted with Cassandra! I tried so hard to stay away from her but she keeps on snuggling at me. And I’d rather she gets caught by Mr. Marasigan than me being sent out of the room.” Allen defended, his voice squeaking.

C’mon Kylie, how many times should I tell you that I don’t like her, never did and never will. But I love you most when you get jealous like that…” Allen blurted out.

“I am not jealous. I am not….” Kylie was not able to finish what she was saying as Allen without any caution pulled her near him and kissed her tightly to shut her up.

“Of course, honey, you‘re not jealous.” Allen silencing Kylie with another kiss.

Allen’s teammates just looked on exchanging grins and naughty smiles.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

“GUD AM KAY-KAY…MUAH! MUAH!” Allen sent his everyday morning text to Kylie who woke up with the message alert “Miss Independent”.

Kylie smiled, amused by the “Kay-kay name. Only Allen was licensed to call her that name as she has never used that pet name since after nursery. But small details such as that could not escape Allen’s childish and playful attitude as he enjoys teasing his girlfriend very much.

Kylie suddenly went down on memory lane as she recalled how Allen shyly approached her after the Mass at the University Chapel where she sings in the choir.

“HI. My name is Allen. Can I buy you a coke or something?” Allen asked politely.

“I know who you are, sir, and thank you, but I am not allowed to drink cold beverage after singing.” Kylie declined.

“I’ll buy you mineral water, not cold, and turon?” Allen insisted.

Kylie laughed and snorted at the offer, especially after Allen saying ‘turon’. No one has ever asked her for water and turon.

“Okay. Where?” Kylie finally agreed and went with Allen at the food kiosk.

“Just over there, at Manong’s stand.” Allen said delightfully.

Since that “turon” moment, Allen did not stop attending mass especially when Kylie was doing solo and sneaking at her classes until he knew where she lived, and some important facts about her life. He almost got bitten by Kylie’s dog when he stalked one afternoon.

It is unusual for Allen to sink that low since he came from a very wealthy family and has never been to slums and poverty stricken areas in Manila. But he braved all these because his goal is to get the girl before anyone else does.

The rest was history.

Kylie stood up and fixed her bed and took a bath to get ready for school. When she went out of the house, Allen was already sitting at the small retail store just in front of Kylie’s house, waiting for her.

Allen thanked the old man at the store and rushed to Kylie’s side, getting her school bags and kissing her forehead.

“I almost overslept. I was awakened by your message.” Kylie confessed.

“Really? Me too. I couldn’t sleep last night I was thinking about you. I slept around 3AM already.

“ Why? “ Kylie asked.

“ You should have slept early, Today’s the Championship, right? “ Kylie gripping his hand.

“Yeah, but don’t worry, they’re a bunch of sour losers and cry babies. We beat them before and we’ll beat their *** again.” Allen winked at Kylie.

Kylie just twitched her lips as if protesting but smiled at the big guy. She knew that he was telling the truth and was just commenting that the team they are about to face that day are just spoiled brats and brainless bullies.

Kylie suddenly realized that instead of heading to their school, Allen took her to Ongpin Street in Binondo. She got a bit scared because she is aware that there are several cheap motels in that place. She felt very uncomfortable and asked Allen worriedly:

“Where are you taking me?”

“Relax, honey. This will take just a few minutes.” Allen responded confidently.

“DON’T YOU DARE RON ALLEN!!! OR I’LL SMASH YOUR HEAD WITH THIS UMBRELLA” Kylie shrieked stealing the scene as bystanders looked at them.

“What are you talking about Kylie? “ Allen asked as they entered the jewelry shop filled with Chinese insence and good luck charms.

“Oh, I thought you were….” Kylie apologized.

“HAHAHAHA! Silly girl!” Allen exclaimed realizing what Kylie just thought.

“Ate, asan na po yung pina reserve ko?” Allen asked the sales lady who hurriedly took the small boxes out.

“Heto po Sir.” The girl responded and smiled looking at the couple.

“What? What’s this?” Kylie asked innocently.

“Just wear it and see if it fits.” Allen said.

The diamond ring fit exactly to Kylie’s ring finger. Still dumbfounded and unable to speak, Kylie finally burst into tears as her hands shook in disbelief.

“I WILL LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL, KYLIE.”

“SO WILL I, UNTIL ETERNITY, RON ALLEN.” Replied Kylie, tears still streaming down her cheeks, as she touched Allen’s face and gave him a soft kiss.

The sales lady at the shop watched with her mouth wide open .

I have just read it, and dont like to leave without making some comment. Technically you write very well, just take care with your tenses and grammer- I spotted the odd mistake.

The teen romance is definately not my cup of tea, but you have produced a readable tale that flows nicely.
