From the Edge

The gun is steel, my finger feels
The pulsating trigger
And words I hear, with different meaning I fear
“Stand still, friend, and deliver.”
My mouth is wide, the barrel inside
The hammer now a c`ocking…
But a promise made is a debt unpaid
T’will keep the gun from knocking
The moments fly, live or die
The question now remaining
Each throb of heart, gives me a start
That life might have new meaning
The grave looks good with its long dark sleep
But I, I have promises I must keep

Made me shiver. It really caught me: I had to read on :)

Glad there are promises. Reminded me of R. Frost. (and miles to go before I sleep).

I do not really understand the line "And words I hear, with different meaning I fear".
I really liked the line (I think for the rhythm) of "The hammer now a c`ocking"

Thank you for sharing

Thank you for sharingI should explain: "Stand still, friend, and deliver." is an old highwayman's challenge. Here I would use the words to mean "Don't chicken out, deliver yourself from this life." Strong words.:)
