Hello everybody.
This is my first ever post.

For school i have to write a speech for English about 1984. The task is to study 1984 then relate this text to another text already known. This can be anything such as movie, book, poem, song etc.

The question is:
How have the texts studied challenged your ways of thinking about control?

It is due in about 5 days.
I don't really know a good related book but i think the movie the Truman show should do, as i seen it a number of times.

Could anyone please suggest any other related text that i should have a look at?
Since i only have a couple more days to do this i do not prefer books.

If you do find a related text can you please tell me how control is in the text?

Thanks,
James

I think it's most common to compare 1984 to other dystopian novels. The shortest one I can think of offhand is Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. There is a similar theme of control and censorship there as in 1984.

Here's a bit more to help you should you choose to look at the Bradbury:

To save you reading another book and having to understand it as well, I'd go with Jim Carrey - you're right, there are some good similarities to exploit.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your tips.

I will go with the Truman Show as i do not have enough time to read Fahrenheit 451 and understand it well enough before the due date.

I may post my speech for reviewing
