Fairy tales are quite good - anything by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, or Hans Christian Andersen. They all have an moral, cautionary aspect to them.

for the fairy tales: Charles Perrault.
Matilda of Roald Dahl seems a good one for role models (the evil head against the nice teacher, and Matilda who tortures and conquers the evil person). And Charlie and the chocolate factory where the good and poor Charlie wins it from all the nasty kids. :D
