Suicide after ten years

I read a book once upon a time (at least fifteen years ago) which told the true story (or so it said) of a man who announced that he would kill himself at age 29. When he made the announcement he was 19 years old. Ten years later he in fact killed himself. Now I need a reference to this story. I've googled far and wide, but no luck. Any help here?
