Sonnet #147

CXLVII.br /br /My love is as a fever, longing stillbr /For that which longer nurseth the disease,br /Feeding on that which doth preserve the ill,br /The uncertain sickly appetite to please.br /My reason, the physician to my love,br /Angry that his prescriptions are not kept,br /Hath left me, and I desperate now approvebr /Desire is death, which physic did except.br /Past cure I am, now reason is past care,br /And frantic-mad with evermore unrest;br /My thoughts and my discourse as madmen's are,br /At random from the truth vainly express'd;br /For I have sworn thee fair and thought thee bright,br /Who art as black as hell, as dark as night.
