Sonnet #146

CXLVI.br /br /Poor soul, the centre of my sinful earth,br /[ ] these rebel powers that thee array;br /Why dost thou pine within and suffer dearth,br /Painting thy outward walls so costly gay?br /Why so large cost, having so short a lease,br /Dost thou upon thy fading mansion spend?br /Shall worms, inheritors of this excess,br /Eat up thy charge? is this thy body's end?br /Then soul, live thou upon thy servant's loss,br /And let that pine to aggravate thy store;br /Buy terms divine in selling hours of dross;br /Within be fed, without be rich no more:br /So shalt thou feed on Death, that feeds on men,br /And Death once dead, there's no more dying then.
