I wrote this after a long day of work one day.

I follow you into the distance, stretching endlessly into the horizon
Clip clop of a hastily shoed horse beneath me
The stiff leather cutting uncomfortably into my legs
My body held together by an entanglement of barbed wire
Riding on and on, further and further, as the beautiful paint fades beneath me
Limp wire strung out towards the heavens
The sun beating down onto my neck as it crawls closer to the edge of the sky
The reins wither in my hands

He waited patiently for his chance, and I gave it to him
Things said that cannot be taken back
Cannot be fixed
He pounced on the opportunity like a wild cat on its prey
Taking my love away from me before I could show my heart
Not knowing the implications of his rash action
For I do not fall peacefully

The noose slung over my shoulder as I walk down the quiet street
He will have a place to hang his hat tonight

*I just wrote this after being inspired by the last line of limajean's recent blog entry. Thanks lima!*

Oh, Kevin, these are really beautiful. "The reins wither in my hands" - beautiful imagery, the whole poem, really!

The final line of the second poem was perfect.

Write more, Kevin! :D
