Please vote for your choices (yes, you can vote for more than one).

I have voted!
I will more than likely be the only one who voted for Midir, but how could i resist a man who search for years and years for his missing love Etain, and when found her turned them both into swans and they flew off to be together for eternity in the halls of the Tuatha De Dannan!

I voted for Will Ladislaw this time, a romantic hero in the truest sense :) -- and am somewhat perplexed not to find Gabriel Oak on the list anymore ...

No one but me is going to vote for Lord Jim from Conrad's novel by that title. But he's a great hero/anti-hero all in one. :)

Edit: Oh shoot. I didn't realize you could vote for more than one. Darn.

Well I have voted and I am ashamed to admitt I vote for two men. Mr Darcy of course is one of them and Rhett Butler was the second. Some days there is just no pleasing me:lol:

I never found Heathcliff a romantic figure, just a tragic one. Upon mentioning this on another site a girl got quite upset with me!

However, I will add King Arthur to the list now.

This was a difficult choice indeed... I love Heathcliff, Yossarian, Holden Caulfield, etc. But I limited myself to two choices... so I picked Gatsby (perhaps because I do love Fizgerald oh so much, and there is this charm to Gatsby) and my lovely, quixotic, and absurd Prince Myshkin...

MR DARCY AND ADAM FROM EAST OF EDEN NO QUESTION ABOUT IT.

Also,
where the hell is Romeo and why is he not there?
I object to such a list.

What can I say? I nominated for Adam (East of Eden) and then I failed to vote for him, because I didn't notice the option of voting for more than one.

So, if my choice was for only one hero (as I thought - and this is clearly my mistake schecerazade), I decided to pick Rochester who is starring on my favorite book and gets awfully misunderstood so many times.

I would be tempted to vote for Oak too, but for some reason he was not anymore on the list so I got easily out of the dilemma (not that it matters anymore since I can't vote again :bawling::lol:)

Edit: oops! Oak is in today, but I swear he wasn't when I voted. Can't we fix this some way? I must find someone who wasn't going to vote for Oak or Adam and convince him/her to conclude my options to his own, so as they won't miss my vote. I am just kidding. It is not worth the effort and they would not be near winning anyway:)

I object to such a list.I do not remember you taking part in the nomination process, LJ.

If you have, please refresh my memory.

I voted for about 10 of them; thanks Scher, for making it possible to vote for more than one; otherwise, I would not have been able to choose. Strangely, enough I did not vote for Paul Morel; maybe I should have, but in thinking of the ending to "Sons and Lovers" I didn't see him as romantic in the usual sense of the word. I saw his character as transitional and not yet developed. I actually find other characters in Lawrence's works more romantic.

I know this list is getting unwieldy, but I don't see how we can add Arthur and leave out Lancelot or Tristan. Maybe next time...:)

wilde woman i was thinking that very thing, especially in light of lancelot. i think what makes arthur a better (if not tragic) choice, is his love for both guinevere and lancelot and how that mingles with his love of country, and his need to keep the peace...if all that makes sense...and then when you consider their (lancelot and guinevere) mutual love (despite their cheating) toward him (arthur), he seems the better choice.

i just got this partial definition of "romantic" from dictionary.com and it seems to fit arthur pretty well:

2. fanciful; impractical; unrealistic: romantic ideas.
3. imbued with or dominated by idealism, a desire for adventure, chivalry, etc.

peterl, surely you jest right? unless romantic and scoundrel are interchangeable?

I voted for a total of 5 men. All for different reasons. But honestly, if I had to choose one character that would be the ultimate romantic hero, it would be Sydney Carton. I don't think there is any contest there.

I'm glad I read Scher's notice before voting. Now I can vote for all my favorites. But I have not read some of the books. I wish I could edit my votes after a few months.

Why, there was not a single hero from Alexander Dumas' works! I hoped to see at least D'Artagnan.

:D Especially if the Ahab looks like Gregory Peck :ihih:. For all of you Ahab fans who can access the Beeb, their latest classic serial is starting today, Moby Dick. I will probably give it a miss as I'm not a big fan of the book, although I know they will do a great job. I will go for the big blockbuster film of Nicholas and Alexandra this afternoon, as I'm currently reading Blood Red, Snow White which is set during the Russian Revolution.

As you were everyone, back to the poll after my short discursion.......:D.
