I'm completely new to this forum, I'd like to thank anyone willing to pitch in a suggestion.

I've received the most vague prompt I've ever had to deal with in my life. I've pondered over it for a while, but I've nothing to show for it.:(

"for this assignment you must research and write on a topic which relates to some area within the broad category of "The Humanities." Specific disciplines can include aspects of music, art, religion, language, philosophy, dance, photography, etc. in addition to the aspects of literature which make up the bulk of our classroom study"

"essentially, your approach should be that of a critic. your paper should have the underlying purpose of providing some analysis, interpretation, and or evaluation of the particular area you choose to research. in other words, you SHOULD NOT merely report trends, standards, principals, perspectives, etc. which are or have been at the cutting edge of your topic. your discussion should add to the topic."

Anyone care to assist...?

You need an argument, an issue and to back this up with evidence. It sounds like you have huge area of choice so go with what interests you or what resources you have readily available.

Wow, even though I hate writing essays, I reckon this could be a pretty fun one to do, if you're into the humanities. Having such a broad and open topic it should be easy to find something you love to write about, which I think is a must for essay writing.
