“Well, you know, Dad,”

“Well, you know, Dad,” one of my sons
once said to me, “sometimes your love
is a burden on me.”

I didn’t ask him to explain.

I thought I understood.

I thought, Well, out of my deep love
for you, from now on
I will try to love you
a little bit less...

I love this now and then and again.

I love this now and then and again.

I confess that I love it, too, especially for the paradox in the final lines. That vow I made to myself: is it possibly doable?

In those last lines, I see such a danger of loving even more in that effort of loving less!

Thank you my too-long absent friend - and when will we again have the pleasure of one of your beautifully wrought poems?

Nice example of irony, of which we're hard-pressed to find these
days.
