Sitting in a window, cheek upon my palm,
Called indoors, by another worried mom,
Who saw me playing in the rain,
And resolutely grabbed my arm.
Gone to take a shower, she left me alone.
Step out of those boots, sodden socks, slip-slop,
The fish in my wellingtons swam onto the floor.
The table must be overturned, a raft on the rising sea.
Dad’s slippers are floating past; they’re big enough for oars.
The wind is building up, and you better take advantage
That curtain’s big enough, and the broom for a mast.
Mermaids are swimming past, but!
Quickly, grab some crackers, for tossing to the sharks!
There’s a cave by the sofa, with pillowy cliffs,
Cascading in rock showers, while I climb treasure Isle.
There’s a tiger by the entrance!
So I’ve climbed the potted tree.
The tiger licks its paws, but that’s because
It thinks I’ll be served for tea.
I swing from the tree, which tumbles after me,
Hanging by the chandelier, I’m face to face,
With the most perilous of all,
The end of my jungle chase.
The pirate queen in robe and Turban,
With an expression she has saved,
Very clearly, just for me.

What a terrific romp through a child's day! Loved it.

What an amazing leap of imagination Chava. This was wonderful. The imaginative leaps kept going and going. Lots of good sections to highlight. How about these:

Step out of those boots, sodden socks, slip-slop,
The fish in my wellingtons swam onto the floor.
The table must be overturned, a raft on the rising sea.
Dad’s slippers are floating past; they’re big enough for oars.
and

The tiger licks its paws, but that’s because
It thinks I’ll be served for tea.
I swing from the tree, which tumbles after me,
Hanging by the chandelier, I’m face to face,
With the most perilous of all,
The end of my jungle chase.
What fun. You know, with the right illustrations, I think this could be a children''s book. A child (probably best for females) would love to read this, with nice bright colors. Can't you just see the little girl and the fish and boat and the tiger. :)

I agree with Virgil about the illustrated child's book. It is enchanting how in touch you are with a child's play at whatever adult age you are.

I'm just a kid at heart who loves to play. My mom, turban or not, eventually gave up, and said I could go ahead and flip the furniture around, so long as it was only upstairs, since the household guests just didn't see the charm of my castles and pirateships.. silly adults.

Thanks for the compliments, I'm glad to hear you could associate with it. :)

Adorable! I immediately thought of A.A. Milne and Christopher Robin. Yours is just as beautifully done as his.
