My relationship with songs is a bit different: I've been collecting them, from some time ago ... So, here's the list I have, up till now:

(Not all youtubes are available ... it happens, sometimes, of a song to vanish; I found it interesting, and let the link in my bookmarks list, anyhow.)

001
My father's gun FOR Elizabethtown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu7O0J61zac

001b
(lyrics of Elizabethtown soundtrack)
http://www.stlyrics.com/e/elizabethtown.htm

002
Hard Times (Eastmountainsouth)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBSbZAn-hLM

(two songs from the movie Elizabethtown ... sweet romantickish movie :p )

003
Sweet Fellowship (Acappella)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2RW5GdHG1M&mode=related&search=

(my first girlfriend was from a religious family, and knew lots and lots and lots of gospel groups ... this is one I remembered to have liked, back then; when I recovered touch (and friendship) with her, last year, I asked her about some groups, and recollected this one; they don't sound as good as back then, funny, but, even so, I liked to find them out again)

004
The city of the blinding lights FOR The Devil wears Prada
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LaKWuqm-3c

005
Sleep
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFhzY31oYz4

my Devil wears Prada movie fever ...

006
So Young (Corrs, 1999)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBv5YjiEmqQ&mode=related&search=

I made this list after some time that I had somewhat ran away of my Corrs fever ... but, sometimes, I come back to them :thumbs_up

007
Leaving So Soon? (Keane)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mp2vOGvgDv0&mode=related&search=

around the same time I was in the The Corrs fever, I met these g*o*ys, and I liked them, all right

008
I've Got You (McFly)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKXlCd8zL4A&mode=related&search=

the movie is Just my luck, if I'm not mistaken; it's with the boy that's going to play James Kirk, in the next Star Trek movie ... always good to remember that :D (both things~)

009
School of Rock
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=bTvlDFoIQKM

another movie that I liked quite a lot! :thumbs_up

010
My Brave Face (P. MacCartney)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGRMl0mz_R0&feature=related

I worked with a woman, a bit older than me, and, at that time, I came to find out some old stuff again ... this was one of them -- not to mention that our fellow coworker is a ... (he would deny this, but) a beatlemaniac, as we call in Portuguese  I like this album by mr. McCartney, it takes me back to the beginning of my highschool youth :thumbs_up

011
Heroes (Wallflowers/Godzilla '98)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLY48-MENiI

Godzilla movie. Good song, the Universal Channel used this, in one commercial, and, later on, I found out that it was this song (when I got the movie, in a store ...); I was glad to find out--

012
Superstition (Stevie Wonder)
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=wDZFf0pm0SE

(something else of the days when I worked with that woman mentioned before ...)

013
drifting (Andy McKee)
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4

now, that fan of the beatles that I told you? he plays (and teaches) guitar; so, he presented me this guitar (wonderful-wish-I-could-do-that) freak ... :thumbs_up

014
California Dreamin' (The Mamas & the Papas)
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=-wI6uAOHzvo

love that! I was watching Forest Gump, with my dad (he bought the movie), and one of the things he was telling me about it is that it portrays his generation in an interesting way, and that this song as background of the movie is very touchy~ (I played it, in a karaoke, the birthday party of that mentioned ex-girlfriend; it was great, however I didn't make any preparations for that, and sang on my own, it was wonderful that the people around made an efficient chorus, which I completely forgot to be necessary :D )

015
Elephant Gun (Beirut)
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=N-mqhkuOF7s

coworkers keep bringing me stuff to hear ... these are the two ways I meet songs: movies or coworkers~

016
Salvation is here (Hillsong United, álbum "Look to you")
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=aEI4Y4jpe94

I don't usually like gospel, but one friend presented me this group, and they're quite ... hearable~

017
Coração audaz
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=c7YO-diQNuk

017b
Coração audaz (letra/lyrics)
http://letras.terra.com.br/coracao-audaz/

020
Twist and shout (The Beatles)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVlr4g5-r18

three other songs I sang in said kareoke; actually, that night, I sang 1. "Somos todos iguais esta noite", by Ivan Lins, Brasilian guy, 2. "Twist n' shout" (which almost drained all my throat, but, fortunately, I recovered myself, and got even more enthusiastic ...) 3. "California dreamin'", 4. "One", and 5. "You've got a friend"; maybe some other, I can't recall, it's been about a month

021
You are the sunshine of my life (Stevie Wonder)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPyq4iqt6Go

1. Take 5- Dave Brubeck

Oh, I didn't know you liked jazz. Brubeck is excellent!

6. Let it Be- the Beatles...perhaps my favourite song in the world
Oh I completely understand. That is a magnificent song. Perhaps my favorite Beetles song.

Fifteen songs is a lot to go searching for and explain.
Let me give it a shot, but I know I wont be comprehensive. I'm just going to flip through my ipod. And in no particular order:

1. My Way - Frank Sinatra
2. Can't You Hear Me Knocking - Rolling Stones
3. Symphony #41 (Jupiter) - Mozart
4. Let It Be - Beetles
5. Carol - Chuck Berry
6. Symphony #3 - Beethoven
7. Redemption Song - Bob Marley
8. Night Moves - Bob Seger
9. Comes Love - Billy Holiday
10. Smokestack Lightning - Howlin Wolf
11. Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters
12. Georgia On My Mind - Ray Charles
13. Sophisticated Lady - Duke Ellington
14. Mack The Knife - Louis Armstrong
15. Who Are You - The Who

I tried to limit it to one per artist, and I could have had the whole list full of Stones or Sinatra. :D

15 songs? We can't agree on 15 songs! Too much infighting.

9. Lost in the Supermarket: The Clash

Awesome song, from an AWESOME album!

(two songs from the movie Elizabethtown ... sweet romantickish movie :p )

Aw I like that movie!

Oh, I didn't know you liked jazz. Brubeck is excellent!

Oh I completely understand. That is a magnificent song. Perhaps my favorite Beetles song.

I do, indeed Virgil. I like a little bit of everything, but I LOVE Brubeck. I've seen him live twice now.

Yes, it's mine too. I love your list, Virgil, especially the Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters! I have a soft spot for Maybelline...haha

1. You Can Still Be Free- Savage Garden
2.Goodbye My Lover- James Blunt
3. Yesterday- The Beatles
4. Moonlight Sonata- Beethoven
5. Any Miles Davis
6. Softly, As I leave you- Frank Sinatra
7. Dance With the Devil- Immortal Technique
8. At Last- Etta James
9. There for You- Damian Marley
10. Politik-Coldplay
11. Praying for Time- George Michael
12. The Way I Feel- Remy Shand
13. Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd
14. The Blower's Daughter- Damien Rice
15. If it's Hurting You- Robbie Williams

But 15 songs is not enough... there have been so many in my life that have affected me or meant something to me... that make me nostalgic or that I associate with loved ones, with past loves, etc. Or songs that incite the revolutionary spirit within me

Artists I would want to add to this list are Talib Kweli, Michael Jackson, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Vivaldi, Marvin Gaye, Dino Merlin, Kanye West... Spanish boleros... ahhh, so many more I could add... music stirs great emotion within me

1.All The Same (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpzkHhgcZG4) by Sick Puppies.
This song... my gosh... this song. It has so many meanings and memories attached to it. I wouldn't even know where to begin with this song. This guy and I... it's our song, I guess :). I remember the first time I heard it... The first time we listened to it together, and there's one other song on the album that means a lot to us both as well. It's also called All The Same (Free Hugs), and given my generally loving and huggy nature, it's even better :D.

And I'll take you for who you are
If you take me for everything
And do it all over again
It's all the same

2.Running Up That Hill (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKkaLM9NcSo) by Placebo.
It's a cover of another song but this version is one of my all time ever favourite songs. It haunts me, in a good way. The guy I mentioned beforehand got me listening to the band, so that means something too.

And if I only could
Make a deal with God,
And get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building,
If I only could, oh...

3.Looming Moon (http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE1Z4qXPFaU) by Secret and Whisper.
This song is in my avatar :). Funnily enough I wasn't too keen on the song until I mentioned it to the guy I've mentioned in the past two songs and we discussed it and kind of analysed it.

Don't turn away looming moon
You'll have your revenge very soon
Don't turn away from what you love
Soon you'll be finding it's much too tough

4.Marble House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WhQ5TiBHVk) by The Knife.
I always thought this was a love song until I talked to some people and we came up with heaps of different interpretations. It makes me want to relax, want to dance, want to think.

The moment we believe that we have never met
Another kind of love it's easy to forget.
When we are all alone then we do both agree,
We have a thing in common this was meant to be.

5.Rock & Roll (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH_tHQVZmtU&feature=related) by Eric Hutchinson.
This is kind of a newer song, but it's already one of my summer songs :D. It's just so mellow and catchy, even though the lyrics don't exactly match the type of song . It makes me think of the stubborn and determined side of me :D

'Cause If she wants rock, she rocks
If she wants to roll, she rolls.
She can roll with the punches
As long as she feels like she’s in control

6.The Cemetery (http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQPMsYqt7mM) by Architecture In Helsinki.
I wanted to put heaps of their songs in here, but this one will do. One of the main thoughts on my mind tends to be about life and death and everything related to that, and this song is so happy and upbeat, but about a cemetery and everyone going there. So, yeah.

There's a shadow on the wall and it's nine feet tall,
And our hearts won't sink 'cause it's obviously nothing at all,
And in a roundabout way we can disappear towards the coast,
The most I have to say isn't really that revealing at all.

7.Death And All His Friends (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_wcRxGbqdU) by Coldplay.
Almost any Coldplay song (esp. Clocks and Fix You and Shiver) all have some connection to some event in my life, but this one lately always just speaks to me.

No I don't wanna battle from beginning to end,
I don't wanna cycle or recycle revenge,
I don't wanna follow death and all of his friends.

8.Just A Girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ygqew4RxIg8) by No Doubt.
No Doubt reminds me of childhood (not that it was that long ago . I always used to love the band and I was always singing their songs). And a few people know how feminist I can get

This world is forcing me
To hold your hand
'Cause I'm just a girl, little 'ol me
Don't let me out of your sight
I'm just a girl, all pretty and petite
So don't let me have any rights

9.Mr. Raven (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYMwW6Lc-9M) by MC Lars.
I love nerdcore hiphop!! This song is indeed a version of The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. I was rapping all day today when we went on a drama/lit excursion!! :D I included this one because there are quite a few classics that I like :) (whereas I love his other songs but couldn't make them fit as easy )

Who's that, who's that rappin'
Who's that rappin' at my chamber door?
Mr, Mr. Raven
All up in my grill like "nevermore"

10. Consoler Of The Lonely (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZMboYzIo_g&feature=related) by The Raconteurs.
There have been so many times, and there still are times, where people expect me to be something I'm not, and I get so sick sometimes of pretending to be what they think I am just so that it doesn't blow up into something big.

Conversations getting dull
There's a constant buzzing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
And I'm bored to tears

11.Rusty Halo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2sNYVnosCM) by The Script.
Fits in with my beliefs on religion etc.

Yeah it's been a long time,
It's been a long time coming.
Been so long
But I gotta shine, shine, shine
My rusty halo.
Gotta shine my rusty halo

12.Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfq_A8nXMsQ) by Quindon Tarver.
One of the best best best songs in the world. I remember growing up with it, and the words still stick in my mind. When I stress out or worry, this is the song I turn to.

Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday

13. Always (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot0kXV4PtBI&feature=related) by Bent.
I love this song in general, but this remix always makes me want to dance, although sometimes it helps me relax too.

Just before I go to sleep
There's a rendez-vous I keep
And, my darling, till we do
You are always in my heart

14. Porcelain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1Fcaro25Ek&feature=related) by Moby.
Most songs by Moby remind me of drama class, a big part of my life and who I am.

In my dreams I'm jealous all the time
Then I wake I'm going out of my mind
Going out of my mind

15. Coconut (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY55SDAocL8&feature=related) by The Sea and Cake.
I love this band! Their music is so relaxing and if I was a song, I'd probably be one of theirs.

I have no idea what the lyrics are and I can't find them anywhere.

Here's Mine:

1. Bastards of Young -- The Replacements: Because sometimes I feel young, mad and whiny.

2. 'Round Midnight - Miles Davis: Because I like coffee and this song makes me want to have another cup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mji4nAk_8ZY

10. "Our Town" Iris Dement: The best song about small town America that I've ever heard. I've lived in many small towns and seen them destroyed by pretension, greed, and hopelessness. But I still hold on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9-pDSYPrio&feature=related

These are the songs, which would make feel a little bit sentimental every time I listen to them:
1) Who Are you - The Who: this is my current life theme song
2) Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere - The Who: this was my life theme song when I was younger :(
3) Time - Pink Floyd: This is my birthday song, will be played on birthday annually
4) Tonight Tonight - The Smashing Pumpkins: First time I thought that Billy Corgan was the sexiest man ever
5) People Are Strange - The Doors: This is the song of understanding people when I wish I didn't have to understand them
6) Use Somebody - Kings of Leon: My self-pity song
7) The Freshman - The Verve Pipe: Just like the lyrics, nothing really special
8) Let Down - Radiohead: When I was younger (again), I would listen to this song to lift up my spirit
9) El Schorcho - Weezer: I will send this song when I want to tell a guy that I like him :)
10) With or Without You - U2: Have no particular reason, I just think it is so sentimental
11) Why Does It Always Rain On Me - Travis: Cheer up song, everyone has his/her share
12) Trash - Suede: We're trash...you and me...
13) Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd: Awesome love expression
14) Disappear - INXS
15) Subterranean Homesick Alien - Radiohead: I told the policemen they'd never believe me, they thought I have finally lost it completely. I showed the stars and the meaning of life, they shot me away. But I will be alright.

How could I possibly forget the Smashing Pumpkins!!!!! I have a massive sentimental attachment to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness...

Let's see if I can even do this... (without too much Andrew Bird, of course)

1. Rocky Raccoon ~ The Beatles
2. Honey Pie ~ The Beatles (I need at least two from them)
2. Measuring Cups ~ Andrew Bird ("get out your measuring cups and we'll play a new game, come to the front of the class and we'll measure your brain, we'll give you a complex and we'll give it a name")
3. Plasticities ~ Andrew Bird ("we'll fight, we'll fight for your music halls and dying cities; they'll fight, they'll fight, they'll fight for your neural walls and plasticities and precious territories")
4. Rollin' and Tumblin' ~ Muddy Waters ("you know I coulda had religion, but I was a diving dove")
5. Gronlandic Edit ~ of Montreal ("physics makes us all its *****es")
6. Cyanide Breath Mint ~ Beck ("cool off your jets, take off your sweats, I got a funny feeling they got plastic in the afterlife")
7. Seahorse ~ Devendra Banhart ("I want to be a seahorse")
8. The Book of Right On ~ Joanna Newsom ("I killed my dinner, with karate, kick 'em in the head, taste the body"
9. Prelude ~ Glenn Gould (because it's so good they put it in space)
10. The Way the Wind Blows ~ A Hawk and a Hacksaw (oh so sublime violin)
11. 21st Century Pop Song ~ Hymie's Basement ("root root root for the home team, shout like your dad at the TV screen, tie a dollar bill around a circus flea")
12. Message of Love ~ Band of Gypsys/Jimi Hendrix
13. Slow Blues ~ Jimi Hendrix
14. Sax Rohmer #1 ~ The Mountain Goats
15. A Chicken with Its Head Cut Off ~ The Magnetic Fields

The songs i choose reflect more who i am, how i feel and what i think, that what i listen too.
So here goes!
Why does it always rain on me- Travis
I'm Irish. Its always raining... well most of the time! :D
Run- Snow Patrol
Sometimes we just need to escape. Even if its not by physically running.
In Between- Linkin Park
I always seem to get caught up in the middle of arguments.
Sometimes right, sometimes wrong- Mickey Harte
Arent we all!
I have a Dream- ABBA
Because i aspire to be many things in my life. Many may not come true and thats why they are dreams.
I am, I Feel- Alisha’s Attic
I'm only human, and i can get angry and fume sometimes.
Ironic- Alanis Morissette
Life likes to bite me in the bum too often.
Stanger things have happened- Foo Fighters
Because strange situations seem to revolve around me.
Haunted- Evenescence
This is because of my passion for all things paranormal... and being haunted by things in my past. (only because i cant let go.)
Basket Case- Green Day
I can go a bit crazy at times! :D
Tamacun- Rodrigo Y Gabriela
You'd need to listen to this and feel the music.
Rusty Halo- The Script
I'm no angel and i'm not perfect.
She’s got her ticket- Tracy Chapman
Because one of these days i'm just going to take off.
Flight of the bumblebee- Rimsky- Korsakov
I'm always doing something.
Always look on the Brightside of life- Monty Python
Pessamism gets me nowhere and sometime it is better to see the brightside than dwell on the bad.

My Brave Face (P. MacCartney)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGRMl0mz_R0&feature=related

I love, love, love this song!!! One of my top McCartney songs!!!

Very interesting thread. I know the songs that would be on mine, but the thing is that there are just so many different ones for so many different times in my life. I would almost have to have more than one list just to have the perfect music for each time in life. :) I will have to give this some serious consideration, though, and see if I am able to come up with only 15.

Oh my gosh, this is truthfully one of the hardest things i've ever done. So hard to pick.

1. Hurt - Nine Inch Nails
this song will always be there for me when the times get hardest, it's a song about losing everything. When you think you got it bad just listen to this song for a second, and it's hard to complain about your current situation knowing there is someone out there who wrote the lyrics to this song.

2. X.Y.U - The Smashing Pumpkins
The angriest song ever from an album that has changed my life, Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness.

3. How Indiscreet - Andrew Bird's Bowl Of Fire
represents everything I truly like about music.

4. Roll Over Beethoven - Chuck Berry
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsp4VCbVvn4
you gotta see this live to understand.

5. Golden Slumbers - The Beatles

6. Happiness Is A Warm Gun - The Beatles

7. Oh Yoko - John Lennon
this song is just really catchy.
In the middle of the night.
In the middle of the night I call your name

8. Milk It - Nirvana
this song is so weird, but it's fitting on this playlist. And it's from the album that made up my adolescence.

9. Memory Lane - Elliot Smith

10. Head Over Feet - Alanis Morrissette.
Don't lie to yourself and say you didn't like this album.

11. Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
I hate the direction this band has gone in, but I used to LOVE this song.

12. A Day In The Life - The Beatles
this may be my favorite song of all time.

13. Poor Places - Wilco

14. Song For The Dead - Queens Of The Stone Age
this song is pretty intense, gets me pumped.

15. Motion Picture Soundtrack - Radiohead
