Ok ya'll I have aburning question that has haunted me for years.

The scenario: I push down the pump on my hand soap and "fuuawwp" a tiny bit comes out. I can see there is still product at the bottom but not enough to make it up and out of the pump dispenser. I have already jiggled the bottle around several times. Now comes the big decision do I: 1) throw out the bottle or 2) try to reclaim the bottom dwelling contents to transfer into the new bottle when there is room??

If I throw out the bottle I'm wasting product. If I do a reclamation it takes a little energy and space.

Thought?

ok if i understand the situation correctly..
i usually put a little water in the bottle, shake it hard so the water mixes with the remnants of soap and you have foamy soap. Don't put too much water though.

That could work:idea:, but what about body lotion?

Depends how much is left - is it worth the yucky mess decanting it into the new bottle?

btw - who chooses the adverts that go with the threads? There's a highly topical one about soap dispensers at the head of this thread? Surely they haven't been keeping this one in cold storage somewhere, just waiting for someone to start a thread about liquid soap? Or do you work for a dispenser company, papaya? (She said suspiciously?)

With body lotion i guess you have to do one of your options :p
I'd go with opening the bottle and using the remnants (i recycle everything and i guess that it's better that all the bottles are as clean as it gets before throwing them to the recycle bin - that process drives the bf crazy ).

Errr, I'm a connoisseur of body lotion, liquid soap, facial wash, shampoo, etc, and because I tend to buy quite expensive brands, I'll take a pair of huge industrial scissors to the bottle when it gets to that 'mostly done' stage, and cut it so that its an open carton. Then I just dip my fingers in the product until its done.

Industrial scissors? I never thought of that. I'll give it a try.

I can neither confirm or deny my place of employment.:lol:

Thats what we do at home.

Try the old trick of standing the bottle upside down so that all the remaining lotion goes to the opening. :)

Is it possible your pump is blocked by hardened soap/lotion? I'd try either running the pump under really hot water or soaking it in really hot water for a while.

whatever you do dont loose your temper with the bottle and do anyone of these three things.
1) Attack it with a massive great kitchen (chef's) knife because the scisors just dont work...thatis just asking for an accident.

2) use your teeth to open the bottle becaus eit has one of those stupid lid stopper things that can come out but wont without breaking a nail... chipped teeth are just so much more expisnve to fix

3) completly loose it and jump/stomp on the bottle while shouting/muttering thing slike " you will not defeat me I boiught you and I will dashing well use you.-- either the bottle expolodes and you have a lovely mess to clean and youve just wasetd all the lotion/soap or you slip and fall and break something/ strain your back!

I am not addmiting to doing any of these things you understand just ahh general advise like  :p :goof:

Yeah that works well. I do that with shampoo bottles. These are the little domestic economy tricks that moms pass down to their daughters  and men (at least my bf) find completely useless.

that works sometimes, but usually the bottle is a weird shape and I have to put it just so so it doesn't fall over...it's just so much work.

I waffle between just throwing the bottle away and scraping every last bit out. One time I even duct taped two soap bottles together so the top one would fall over while it was on top of the other. It worked but looked dumb.

That's where your spare loo roll comes in. You wedge the odd shape upside down in the centre and, tarrah, it stays put!
