Although I've never read any of the science-fiction for which she is esteemed, I stumbled on her sequal to The Aeneid, called Lavinia, narrated by Aeneas' wife who is mentioned but never given a word to speak in the entire epic. Here she is the narrator of events prior to, during and after The Aeneid and at page 361 of the 379 pages of this extraordinary novel, I'm simultaneously eager to read to the end and already deeply forlorn at finishing it.

I certainly intend to read this sometime this year Prince. Thanks for giving me the heads up on it. Why did you start this thread in the Yeats section?

Because I'm a freaking idiot! Apologies. I thought I was starting a thread for an author who didn't have one! I'll see if I can get it removed.

I have one of her books sitting on my to read pile at home. I have been meaning to get to it for sometime now. She is suppose to be a graet writter.
Earthsea is fantastic children's literature, and The Left Hand of Darkness is a great novel for adult audiences. Of all the writers, I think she redeems fantasy the most.

She's a very talented lady - her children's literature was superb, and her writing for adults is equally deep and meaningful!

Joreads, JBI, Lockasenna, DO READ Lavinia and let me know whether you were as mesmerized by it as I was. Thanks

Nice to see some mention of Ursula Le Guin here. She is a fantastic writer in my opinion; highly imaginative and she weaves important themes into her fiction.
Like others, I suggest you seek out 'Left Hand of Darkness' and perhaps 'The Dispossessed'. Both are excellent reads -- and don't be put-off by the Sci-fi tag.
I have 'The Lathe of Heaven' and the previous mentioned Earthsea trilogy yet to enjoy but I might just add the book you mention to the list. Thanks. :)
