Hello, gum_digger. To remain entirely honest, I have yet to read F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby (a pity, I know), but you may want to consult another thread regarding the novel. I will provide the link:

Good luck!

F. Scott Fitzgerald uses Geoffrey Chaucer's 'Troilus and Criseyde' in his novel 'The Great Gatsby,' with resemblances in character, scene, and structure, as well as a number of quite similar "set scenes." These scenes include the lovers' union at the house of the intermediary during a rainstorm, and the futile visit to the departed lady's house.

Sent that too soon, not finished...www.ipl.org is the "internet public library". You'll have to browse around there yourself, couldn't begin to tell you all the sites you'll find re: Mr. F, but one hint, find literary criticism section, lots of people like bellyaching about Gatsby.

Choose literary criticism when you have arrived at the ipl home page (from the left of the screen), then choose authors, once you find Fitz, then there's a small window containing two of Fitz's work, one of them, Gatsby.
