I confess, I'm not particularly interested in his work, and I am somewhat a specialist in Canadian poetry. Quite honestly, I think him a 4th rate romantic.

I guess people will remember him for "The Cremation of Sam McGee" though, even though that poem isn't particularly good.

The trochaic/anapestic combo he employs is even more boring than Poe's Raven.

The 16ers he uses in that poem are so predictable and boring.

Far , far more to the man than the Cremation of Sam McGee or The Shooting of Dan McGrew. Both of which were more or less simple entertainment poems.

And he wasn't Canadian , he was English born and Scottish raised , was in Canada briefly in comparison to the time he spent in other parts of the world.

Though he *is* mostly remembered as the Poet Laureate of the Yukon and the Gold rush.

And to this day he speaks to the heart of those of us with serious Alaska time.

At any rate I'll post up some of his lesser known work , I was just throwing it out there to see if there was any interest in something lighter.

I appreciate your honesty though. But myself I don't rate Poets or their work , some appeal to one individual , some to another.

He was more a Canadian poet than an English one - though you are right, he was a tourist, like most Canadian writers at the time.
