Nap
Death; what of it, death?
Who sees it black,
A velvet wrap,
Warmly sleeping,
A sigh, a purr,
Do not wake me to walk
Your cheery bright path,
But let me rest, alone,
This shady dell,
This black oak tree.

Oh, Amp, you're back and not one whit less articulate and moving than ever! I have missed your contributions.
I don't assume the above was prompted by that, but had you heard of Donna (CdnReader)'s death? There's a condolences thread in "General Chat" that you might want to check up.

Thank you so much, Prince, for your welcome and about Donna. I didn't know.

Elegantly worded, dark - and warm, if that makes sense. I really like this! :thumbs_up:thumbs_up

Hi ampoule. I often feel that way about dreams. Some are so warm I resent being woken. I do hope death is like that. I like this poem a lot!

This looks like a place I could go to-when the time is right.

An intriguing poem. I loved the title, lulled me into a false sense of security!
'A velvet wrap,
Warmly sleeping,'
I loved these lines! Very foreboding imagery.
'Do not wake me to walk
Your cheery bright path,'
'cheery' was unexpected but worked well, interesting choice of words.
Strong poem, certainly not what I was expecting!

Referring from your comment in Ticket.
:( I apologize if my comments for Nap seemed like I was equating dark with ominous. I was not. I'm afraid I am guilty of not giving the poem the review it was due.
In spite of its "dark" words, the view in the poem was comforting in its description of death. It seemed secretive as though the sleeper was in respite. Beautiful to think of it this way.
