Hunting for books on cultural anthropology
I came across a young woman
bearing cakes, and covered delectables
into the library lift.
'They're not for me' she said, with a smile.
I saw her on the way in,
and again, on the way out,
but she didn't give me a cake.

It's okay, but the ending falls short (a bit flat), even stated as a jestful afterthought. Seems a bit strange that she'd give you a piece of cake after telling you they're not hers. Or even if they were hers.

Her defending the armload of sweets brought the real world into the poem (does that make sense?) -- in that it is so typical of a girl to say this. ;)
