new to forum

Okay first time I have ever put down anything in a forum so I'm a Newbee. I've used many sites to find useful info just have never got up the nerve to say any thing. So how does this work? Are there unwritten rules I should know about? Like is grammar a big deal? How does one become credible in these forums? And if I have more to say than can be said in a forum are we allowed to link to say a blog that belongs to us? I'm just looking to do things right the first time you know? Thanks What is a tag?
