My mother sanguine masked,
under turbaned gauze she cascades;
blood that once shaped me flowing
rivulets down her pretty face.

Sepia crusts round sea-green eyes
she looks to me, her champion daughter.
Paladin of emergency room procedures.

Minuet's spawn hours,
perambulating Stygian limits.
Energy discharged by exhaustion,
synapses stuttering triggers in my brain.

Then everything that could go right did,
tests revealing surface wounds, nothing deeper.

Piercing needles bite ivory bones, scattering silence.
Torn flesh repaired impeccably through plaintive tears,
by nimble fingers embellished with compassion.

At last skin's integrity restored, blooming blue roses~
we both retire floating on pillowed sighs.

God, this is so visceral! It's as if it was stitched together as surely and tautly as that ER surgeon worked on your poor mother's face!

Although every line is telling I was especially moved by these:

synapses stuttering triggers in my brain.

and this:

we both retire floating on pillowed sighs.

God I love writing poems, what a voice it gives!!!

I wish I could remember the exact poem or poems I read so many years ago, in which I first saw to my astonishment that there was a place and a way in which one could think let alone write about thoughts that I thought I was the only one ever to have thought! And that tabu or naughty or anti-social though they might be, one could actually speak them - and in public!

Even to those of us who speak just one language, it is a second one, isn't it?

It certainly is, for me it's a wonderful place feel my feelings completely and to sing. :)
