Since Subby made a blog entry about her new nickname (Polly Pocket), I thought I'd start a thread where you can tell us some of your nicknames that people use for you.
I guess I'll start. One of the nicknames I used to have is Horny Horton. I bet inquiring minds want to know how I got this name huh ? Well, get your minds out of the gutter. I have on my keychain an elephant's head and one day a friend of mine just started calling me that. It's rather cute I must say, the elephant's head I mean.
So what are some of your nicknames ?

Shorty...because i'm 5"2' in height.
Nims by nightie and a few others because its just easier than Niamh

Hmm, I've had quite a few nicknames, but none of them have interesting stories. They're all more or less random. Sears, Home Depot, Sugar, Little Foot, Sahara, Scare Bear, Wei, Kim (cuz apparently I look like I should've been named Kim).

Dori

Squeegee, Jesus, P-Swayze, among others.

All very interesting stories.

Squeegee...interesting...wanna elaborate on that one?

Squeegee...interesting...wanna elaborate on that one?

Sure. :) Some guy in 6th or 7th grade decided to call me that one day. He managed to convince everyone else to do so as well. It stuck well into 10th grade, I think. It was just random, and a failed attempt to ridicule me.

As for the others, in case you're wondering:

Jesus - I was called this when I had shoulder-length, curly hair by my hockey teammates.
P-Swayze - My real name is Patrick, and this nickname I got from my soccer teammates. I guess someone thought I looked like him? I'm not sure.

I suppose I was occasionally called Tarzan during track season when I had long hair.

I've also been called Pete and/or Repeat and other similar titles given to twins.

ah yes the old twin ones! My sister was twinie and i was twinie eile. Cant forget the twits, one and two..
I kind guessed the P-swayze one.

Great idea for a thread!

(Haha, must be really funny to be called "Jesus"!)

Mine are usually terms of endearment (Pedrinho, Pedrocas), short forms (Peds, Pedders) or else simply international variants of my name (Pedrini, Petersen).

In chronological order:
Rouge: French for 'red'. A guy started calling me that because my face went bright red when I was embarrassed (which happened often, I was a shy feller). Used bullyingly.
Licano: family nickname (my sister and I use it). Became my IRC nickname.
Kandaurov: average Ukranian soccer player who was in Benfica for a spell. Chose it myself, used it as my alias back in the days when I played online games.
Guaxinim: Portuguese for 'raccoon'. Basically a bunch of girl friends were drunk and walking in the middle of the road and I warned: 'careful or you'll wind up like the raccoons in Australian roads'. Not very funny, but alcohol made it hilarious. They still call me that.
Pedrophile: just a pun involving my name and that dreadful word. Boys will be boys, I guess. Very akward when they use it in public places.
Pauleta: Portuguese striker: I too have short hair, am Portuguese and play as a striker.

EDIT: Sorry for the list's ridiculous lenght, seems that I got carried away. Memories!

:D It's a bit annoying, though, to be mistakenly called by your twins name. Or being referred to as "the other one" or "twin 1" (or 2). And, of course, let's not forget the mega-preppy blondes that have gone to the same school with you for 5 years and still have to ask you what your name is.

"Haha, which one are you? I can never tell which one is which."
*faintly smiles* "I'm Patrick."
"What's the other one's name?"

:crash:

Okay, perhaps I'm being a bit harsh. :D But, unless you're a twin, you have no idea how annoying it can be!

(Haha, must be really funny to be called "Jesus"!)

They don't call me that anymore (one claimed that they can't because I cut my hair). It was weird, though, when they did call me that. I never really spoke much to my hockey team, and I don't usually nowadays. I just smile and perhaps laugh.

... I won't tell you all my nicknames, I'm not ready for people to know my real name.

Only ONE person in this forum knows my name (I told the person) ...

My aunt used to call me "ratífero", which is derived from "mouse", in Portuguese ... I think it was because I was very small.

My dad sometimes called me by an odd (unexistent) variation of my name + Epaminondas, like ay ... "'Timothillino' Epaminondas". It's one of my favourite ekes, because it's big, and his intention was actually this and to speak something funny ...

A friend of my dad, uses the first syllable of my name, like ... "Tatetitotutotim", in "a-e-i-o-u" ... (I adapted it to "a-e-i-o-u-o-i", because Tim is with an "i".)

There was an eke I didn't like, at 5th grade, which was "tartaruga", and means turtle. They called me like this (with a bit of intention to offend me ...) because I've always been very thin, and they thought I looked like a turtle, with my bag at the back ... The only reason I didn't like it was that it was a bit pejorative.

There's one friend of mine who calls me like "Timothibus", because I studied Latin at college, and he knows nothing of Latin kK ...

Other ekes are common short forms of my name, like a simple "Tim" or "Timmy" ... (My mother uses a form that sounds more like "Timmy", to me ... I wouldn't like to be called Timmy by noone, except my mother. It's a bit girlish.)

Here, some people call me Lib, some Libri, some Tim. I like Libri, which Virgil first called me. I adopted it! All of them are welcome! :)

[All right, the beard phasis ... Since I adopted the beard, I've had many ekes, at the streets ... Unknown people (usually tramps) call me by "Raul Seixas" (which I don't like), a Brasilian musician, "Jesus-christ" (which I don't like ... he wasn't caucasian), "Bin Laden" (which I don't like ... he isn't caucasian). Maybe others ...

There's one that I like particularly, which is "Don Quixote", a friend of church calls me so. It's a compliment, to me, although I don't think the guy ever read the book ... And now I remember that one woman at another church, before getting to know me, used to call me "prophet" (because of the beard as well ...). I didn't mind about that, however I'm not one. Now, she calls me "grilo" (which means grasshopper) and "grilinho" (and the diminutive form of grilo), because of an e-mail that I have, which is composed by a Portuguese word for "locust".]

My name is Kareemah, by the way. It's found in the Quran, and it means 'generous', or 'honourable woman'

Samtaro, after the cartoon hamster, Hamtaro. Apparetly I also used to look like Hamtaro .

High school: sprinks, after the character Sammy Sprinkler in The Benchwarmers. It was Sammy Sprinkla, then Sprinkla, then sprinks.
Sam-ham, after one of my friends spelt my name as Sam Ham.

Haha, I dont have nicknames really, just abbreviations of my own name, but my last name however, was always the point of ridicule in my younger years. Sandbut, and Sandbucket, where the most common. (Sandbukt means sandbay in Norwegian, most beaches are stone in Norway, so i guess my family took pride in the oddity.)

My mom calls me Sun.

Nicknames eh?

For the most part, I go by a short form of my first name, which a couple of you know, so most of my nicknames came from family...

Pie...my dad calls me that (short for sweetie pie from when I was young)
Number 4...my dad's way of distinguishing me from my siblings
Doll...my mum has always called me that
Granny...from school a long time ago...there's a story behind that
Snarfy...my brother calls me that, it developed from another name he used to call me
Landy-sa or Lorndy Dorndy...also from my strange, strange brother
Missy...by one of my good friends. I don't think he's ever used my real name
Girl or The Girl...a few people call me this...there are a lot of guys in my family

I'm sure there's more...

Good one! :D

I never really had any nicknames (nor anyone else in my family when I think of it). But I have sometimes been called by other names.

**There is the shortened version of what my real name is. For those of you who know my name, you will know what the shortened version is, and PLEASE don't call me that because I HATE it!!!! Generally the only ones that do that, though, are people that I have worked with. I just don't understand that.

**My entire life (well, up until I was about 12 - 13, I suppose) I was called "Baby" which I suppose was because I was the baby in the family. But my one brother and my mother still say it from time to time.

**My dad used to occasionally call me "Kitty Cat". I couldn't tell you when that stopped, though.

**My mother still occasionally calls me "Baby Girl" or "Baby Doll" (the latter one the most).

Other than that, I have basically just been addressed by real name. :)

Most of them are short versions or types of my name lol.

Mom calls me Laulie, my sister would call me Lo lo when she was young and still does from time to time when occasion calls for it.

A pastor friend calls me La la, shortening my name or using it in reference to the fact that I sing..I'm not sure. :D

I used to be called Squirt and Squirtle by some people from my past, one of whom recently passed away.

One of the older gentlemen on the praise teams calls me Little Fish. We race to the water fountain after worship and he says, "hurry up Little Fish, us big fish need to have a drink too."

Those are all I can think of right now.
