I don't have the pleasure of calling myself a veteran writer, however the more I write I realised that after years of experience and experiments, I've developed a style of my own. It's come naturally. I expect that I'm hyperbolising the situation, but I feel a pleasure in noticing any difference. How distinguishable is your style?

Also I've noticed certain motifs that reoccur (the act of someone Vomiting, the use of Birmingham, Beards, Trains, Referencing Dead People, Tattooes). Odd huh? Anything that's spewed into your work? I like to think that having certain trademarks is a plus if anything, everyone knows Tarantino for aliases, splatterpunk and Mexican Stand-Offs -- whilst Tim Burton is known for gothic imagery (dead dogs, striped snakes, twisted trees) and lonely protagonists.

Do you encourage the use of trademarks, or try and stray from repeating yourself? Surely it's affecting, limiting your pallette and maximising the use of it, after all a small well-nurtured garden is sweeter than an gargantuan unruly jungle.

Yep. Although I've not yet written enough fiction to be especially aware of any trademarks, in my non-fiction "geekiness" pretty much works. Maybe some cheesy "growing up" philosophy :D.

However as to my reading I have noticed what I especially love-
vagueness. Half-whispered, fading away, mists, etc.

longing, especially for things forgotten. "But seek alone to hear the strange things said
By God to the bright hearts of those long dead, "

old ideas...

courage and principles, like Boromir in Lord of the Rings...

and, um, anything having to do with the heights and depths of humanity. Like Dostoevsky.
