The Poem: Chapter 1; Verses 1-8

Blasphemy ceased beyond a reasonable doubt
As the audience watches Him appear
The stadium panics in silence
Who will be chosen?

Riot forever in the streets below
Set everything in sight ablaze
Loot for the meaningless
Is this what we now call home?

Heavenly pieces collapse in a day
Commense this Holy martial law
His reign can't end the terrible
Or can it?

Hell on Earth took 6 days to build
The Sabbath is the plot to tear it apart
Prove His worth through us
Does anyone pass judgement better?

Dust-stricken savior when troubled times approach
'Tis the only time He's recognized
Only when help is needed
How do you define "hypocrite"?

Hiding skeletons in the deepest of wells
Though many believe He sees all
Yet, another unjustifiable attempt at deception
Do you really believe?

Bless the Lord who gave us porn
Unborn missions to abort
Pray to God who allows such war
Watch His children perrish forevermore

Kneel down to a body unbound
Has no voice and makes no sound
Following faith to a hole in the ground
Eternal life will never be found

The Rant: Chapter 1; Verses 1-3

There's no one there, no one listening
Otherwise no one would fear death
Death wouldn't be a sad time
It'd be a celebration
But everyone knows their loved ones go nowhere
Go nowhere but down

There's no further existence
There's no eternal life
There is no second coming
Find your own way to deal with strife

You can believe a thousand made up
And/Or paraphrased stories
You call your belief faith
More so denial
Devote your life to something
Non-existent
I'll sleep in on sunday
I'll continue to say "Oh Dear God"
It's not a matter of belief
More like a figure of speech
You say I'm bound for hell
I say "Well Done" please
I am my father's son

The Reckoning:

I am not at all proclaiming I'm right
I almost hope I'm wrong
But it's hilarious to me
To see people spend their lives
Praying upon something
That has never been proven true
But scientifically proven false
On so many occasions
With this sort of proof
In front of your eyes
How can faith still be enough?
Ridiculous

I hope posters in this thread don't find it difficult to distinguish between debating the ideas contained in the poem and critiquing the poem itself, qua poetics.

Brilliant title and some provocative thoughts but has the existence of 'God' really been scientifically disproven? Some might argue, from the other side, that 'God' has theologically disproved science!

Touche....

i didn't mean that God has been disproven by science, but biblical stories and sequences have been disproven by science.

nice reversal though, God may one day disprove science, but til then, science takes the cake.

But can God be any more improbable than Quantum Dynamics, of which Niels Bohr said that anyone who thinks about it without getting dizzy has probably not understood it at all? (Applying the dizziness quotient I must have a nearly perfect understanding of it!)

It's improbable, even paradoxical and, seemingly, impossible, but there's evidence for it. It's not just something Nils Bohr knew in his heart. It may ultimately even prove to make more sense than it currently seems to.

I like Slavoj Zizek's take on the relationship between religion and quantum physics. He compares it to the effect of zooming in too close on the figures in a computer game; the form breaks down, goes fuzzy; it's as if God, as ultimate programmer, got to the quantum level and just thought, 'Oh well, they won't bother looking this closely.'

I can't believe I'm debating religion in the poetry section.

The first bit kind of works as a poem for me. The latter two segments really don't. They read like you saying what you think and putting line breaks in.

Not as incongruous perhaps as if they were debating poetry in the religious section.

after i say this:
And of whom have you been afraid, or feared, that you have lied and not remembered Me, nor taken it to your heart? Is it not because I have held My peace from of old that you do not fear Me? Isa 57:11
Please, please close this thread quick... lol.

I don't get it.....my brain is on overload - or I can't be bothered :-) Sounds good though for someone artistically expressing themselves. Is that ok? I mean you're not being political are you....is poetry like that. I'm so confused....
