Hi, fellow cashettes! Welcome to this haven of purity and awesomeness. You don't have to be like me and adore him like a demi-god to take full advantage of this thread, but it might help. You can discuss or say whatever you wish, but here are some rather predictable sample questions in case the myriad of exquisite sensations he instills in you is just too much for your brain to process into words:

#1: what's your favourite JC song?

For me it's incredibly hard to choose, but it's safe to say that recently I've been especially obsessed with "I've Got Stripes", "Cocaine Blues" and "Guess Things Happen that Way".

#2: what's your favourite JC cover?

I know "One" and "Personal Jesus" are the big favourites, but I have to choose "Hey Good Lookin'", to which I'm positively addicted. The way he whistles when he says "sweet" is solid gold.

1) Gotta be either: "Man in Black" or "folsom prison blues" but honourable mentions have to go to "Sam Hall" & "Boy named Sue"

2) Gonna go for "Hurt"

Man, I had forgotten all about "Hurt"! I actually think it's one of the very few covers which is better than the original. And what an amazing video to it too.

1). Ring of Fire
2). Desperado (JC covers Eagles with Don Henley)

Oh the ole "Ring o' Fire", great stuff indeed - haven't heard that "Desperado" cover though. Sounds very Cashesque all the same :)

I love his cover of hurt too -- it's probably one of the best covers ever made -- but I wouldn't say it's better than the original. It's just different. Trent's is dark and gritty, while JC's is contemplative and, although depressing, doesn't carry the same angst. But I'm a huge NIN fan and not much of a JC fan (I don't dislike his music, I just never got into it) so I'm pretty biased.

Count me in!!! I love Johnny Cash. :)

Oh Ring of Fire, Man in Black, Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk The Line, A Boy Named Sue, Cry, Cry, Cry, Big River, Flesh & Blood aree such great songs.

Maybe Flesh & Blood is my favorite.

But I must admit I love the patriotic songs. Ragged Old Flag: http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=vyN2jhWjeVw

And the lyrics of Song of the Patriot makes my heart swell:

I'm a flag waving, patriotic nephew of my Uncle Sam

A rough riding fighting Yankee man

I love mom and applie pie,

And the freedoms that we all enjoy across this beautiful land

I work hard and I fight hard for the old Red, White, and Blue

And I'll die a whole lot harder if it comes to where I have to

I'm a flag waving, patriotic nephew of my Uncle Sam

A rough riding fighting Yankee man

And when I see old Glory waving

I think of all the brave men who have fought and died for what is right and wrong

And when I see old Glory burnin, my blood begins to churnin

And I could do some fightin' of my own

I don't believe in violence, I'm a God fearing man

Bul I'll stand up for my country just as long as I can stand

Cause I'm a flag waving, patriotic nephew of my Uncle Sam

A rough riding fighting Yankee man

I'm a flag waving, patriotic nephew of my Uncle Sam

A rough riding fighting Yankee man

And I enjoy the liberty of being what I want to be and achieve any goals that I can

I was taught to turn the other cheeck, but daddy used to say

Walk soft and pack a big stick, but never walk away

I'm a flag waving, patriotic nephew of my Uncle Sam

A rough riding fighting Yankee man

And When I see old Glory waving

I think of all the brave men who have fought and died for what is right and wrong

And when I see old Glory burnin, my blood begins to churnin

And I could do some fightin' of my own

Cause I love all my brothers and were proud of our group

We've got the greenest country here on God's green earth

I'm a flag waving, patriotic nephew of my Uncle Sam

A rough riding fighting Yankee man

Count me, also. I too love JC! Wow, not long since I watched the film based on his life; good film I thought - "Walk the Line",....but forever and ever I have liked Johnny's music and voice. I like to hear old recordings with him singing with June. I love "Ring of Fire," "Man in Black", "I Walk The Line," and a zillion trillion other ones. I didn't know he wrote "Desperado" - OMG, that is one of my alltime favorite songs. I can't recall which song Johnny sung a lot, that actually June wrote. They were amazing together.
Virgil did you see the film?

Virgil and Janine, you can't believe how happy you make me! We might get a proper thread going on here :)

Jacob, to each his own :) I see where you're coming from, it's the same argument I use when I say I prefer Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" and Tears for Fears' "Mad World" over the (Nirvana's good, Jules's magnificent) covers.

Virgil, thanks for the link to "Tennessee Flat-top Box", fantastic rendering! Indeed, "Flesh and Blood" is great, kind of reminds me of "A Thing Called Love".

Yeah, Janine, the film is really good; it was the film that made me realise JC was no ordinary human being but a legend ;) I didn't even like Joaquin Phoenix that much, but he has a tremendous voice and did a very good job indeed!

This video isn't the best thing since bread came sliced (mainly because of the idiot who starts chattering in the middle of it), but I think it shows particularly well Cash's likeableness and bemusing style. "Busted" it is, a version on a par with Ray Charles's, which is also terrific.
