**Just as a heads up, this is a new branch of writing I'll attempt to make into a bigger story, starting from the middle, to the beginning, to the end. It's called Dawn's Fate, a new kind of war. (Haloish-related)**

.........(RECOVERING)..........
.....(RESTORATION PROCESS INITIATED)....
....//ERROR: VIRAL SCAVENGER FOUND...
..//PURGING

It was always the same on routine long-range RECON missions. But this, this was different. They captured our ships, 83 of them, like wild animals in a corral. One by one they burned us alive. When they were done..twenty-three were left limping back to Sanctuary Omega. Never..in the history of naval warfare..had our ships been captured, burned, and left to die like that. Maruvians..that's what the crew always called them. The patrols encountered them 3 months before the initial attack. They too, were herded, and burned alive.

We can't win..the hierarchy cannot help us. Mankind's end is nigh.

Ok...

Might I suggest holding off on posting until you have a story? A scene is all well and good if there is a point to the scene in of itself, something that we could appreciate or give feedback on, but there's not much one can do with this. *shrugs*

**Who's writing the story, me or you? I stated at the start of what I'm doing. Middle, beginning, then the end.**

"It was thirteen days..thirteen days since the Maruvians burned our fleet! Morning's Dawn was the first to go..then our Prowler Panther. They boarded our ship and murdered the crew leaving twenty-three alive. I don't know what happened after that.." the crewman shuddered once then hid his face in his scarred hands.

Four others sat around the traumatized man and conversed quietly. Vice Admiral Tobias Bremner spoke first.

"Is that everything son?" The vice admiral asked in a texan accent. The crewman looked up, tears collecting at the edges of his eyes.

"That will be all for today Houghtling, you may go now," Doctor Genevieve Williams remarked while she still wrote notes on her thumbpad.

Ensign James Houghtling nodded once, and wiped his face on the sleeve of his patients jacket. The door behind him opened and two marine guards marched in, chained the ensign in handcuffs and led him out. Fleet Admiral Lance Cleveland turned to the other three and scowled.

"What the HELL was THAT?!" he rasped in a gruff voice.

Doctor Williams held up a hand to silence the admiral. Genevieve sighed, set her tablet down then leaned back into her chair and closed her eyes for a moment.

"Well Admiral," the Doctor began. "Your fleet is gone."
"Gone?! There were enough ships there to tear an elite homeworld a new one," Admiral Cleveland spat. "Tell me my fleet is gone."
"The data recovered says otherwise, Admiral," the doctor gently replied.

Admirals Cleveland, Bremner, and Hall exchanged nervous, angry glances then stood up to leave. The door banged open wide with Ensign Houghtling standing tall with a crazed look on his stricken face. Blood had spattered all down his front and he was holding an M6G Magnum in his right hand.

"Ensign! What the hell are you doing!" Admiral Hall demanded as he reached for his own sidearm.
"I told you," Houghtling muttered. "And you didn't believe me!" The ensign cried. "They're coming Doctor, and you can't stop them."

Admiral Hall quickly drew his sidearm. A single shot rang out and deafened the room. Admiral Michael Hall slumped against the back wall, a bullet hole in his left eye.

"Stand down Ensign!" Yelled Genevieve as she thumbed her pad for security.
"Why? So you can shoot me full of drugs?" Houghtling replied shakily.
"We don't want anyone else to die, ensign," Doctor Williams said reassuringly.
"The Maruvians are coming! You or the Covenant won't be able to stop them!" Houghtling screamed as he brought his magnum to bear.
"No!" the doctor and Admiral Cleveland screeched.

A series of puffs and whines of automatic fire filed the room. Ensign James Houghtling, age 22, lay dead face down on the laminate flooring, twenty-five bullet wounds in his back.

"Are you hurt? the security team leader asked, lowering his MA5B assault rifle.

Doctor Williams shook her head as did Admiral Cleveland and Bremner. Dark red blood oozed about the individuals feet and around the room. "Get this cleaned up, now." ordered Cleveland.

hey, nice story and concept you got there :)

hmm...the first part doesn't seem like a middle part though, i think its better if its an introduction(just an opinion, i think its cooler that way), hehe

but anyway i cant change the writer's direction, he knows more than the reader does
continue and keep writing! :D
