Moved there when i was 13 actually, really love it there.

And i can get my supply of vegemite from New Zealand - so no, not the vegemite..
though it is yummy...

hmm
have you travelled much?

Dori
01-07-2009, 10:34 PM
I for one haven't travelled much; I've only gone as far south as Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as far north as the Saint Lawrence River (the border between New York, where I live, and Canada), as far east as New York City, and as far west as Buffalo, New York (perhaps?). Okay, I've been to Canada before, but that was ages ago.

(I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I figured I'd answer it anyway in the hope of getting to know one another. :D )

I loved.. New York and Paris the most.

Paris surprised me the most. I had this image of cobblestoned streets and little alleyways - but when I got there i was surprised at how open, wide and quite flat it all was. Paris was absolutely amazing.

Morocco was a massive, massive culture shock. I road tripped to three places while I was there.

My class is going to New York City for our senior trip, and the Art Club, of which I am the vice president, might be going on a separate trip there this spring as well. If I go on both, it will be my second and third time going which is great! I live in rural, upstate New York (about a 6hour drive west from NYC), by the way, so being in NYC is drastically different than what I'm used to. I just love the energy of that city (and all the museums!).

Wow, limajean, you've travelled quite a lot...I'm jealous. :D My travels have been quite limited, unfortunately, and unless I somehow miraculously make a lot of money in the future, I'm afraid they'll stay limited. Though, I might, just maybe, take a trip down to Uruguay. Believe it or not, my grandpa bought a house down there, meaning I have a place to stay! :D

And Joreads, I also like returning home, especially after long absences. :)

Yeah i have travelled a lot - got some insane stories along the way.

When i was in morocco my family and I bought these little lizards, the ones that change colour you know? i've forgotten their name but they were so cute - drove them out near the desert, well, away from the city, and released them, they were pretty cool

... Limajean? Lima Jean? Jean Lima? ... Moved to Australia? Where from?

I'm a Carioca (that is, born in Rio de Janeiro), but my father's from Bahia (another state), and my mother from Minas Gerais (yet another state). They met in Rio, got married a year later, I was born four after the marriage.

When I was 5, they moved to Salvador (Bahia). Then we came back to Rio, when I was 6. When I was 9, we moved to Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais). We were back when I was about to turn 11. We moved to Portugal, when I was 13. 15, we were back in Rio. I was 22, they moved to Belo Horizonte again. that time, I stayed, because I could manage it, already.

Except to Portugal (Oporto), all the other cities are in Brasil
I'll give the translation of the cities' and states' names of this beautiful but tough Portuguese America:

Rio de Janeiro, "January river"
Minas Gerais, "general (Royal) mines"
Belo Horizonte, "beautiful horizon"
Bahia, "bay", in an ancient spelling; in modern Portuguese, it's baía
Salvador, "saviour"
Oporto, original name is Porto, which means "harbour", or "haven"

I travelled a bit, from 5 to 15. No more!, thanks. At least, not to live abroad! I love my hometown and birthplace.

Lived in Australia my whole life. Have been to Adelaide, Sydney and Canberra, and Victoria when I was very very little, and other random little islands off the coast here. And I agree with Niamh :D. Oh  the past 2 or so days, I've practically lived on Vegemite on toast!

You all really enjoy vegemite??!!?? A good friend of mine spent a year in Australia and New Zealand and brought some back because she said it was so popular. I didn't believe her. It tastes like salty sludge!!!

My travelling has been limited...

I live in Canada and I've only been to a few of our own provinces (Born in Ontario, travelled to Quebec, New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia), I've been all over the U.S., and I've been all over England. That's the extent of it. I'm hoping to go all over Europe somewhere in the midst of my schooling or shortly after.

Zee.
01-08-2009, 01:31 PM
I finish up school in october - hoping to study law.

But this year i will be studying

International studies - deals with politics and global issues
History - American history and Russian history
Literature - D.H Lawrence, Henry James, Shakespeare's Hamlet
English - Robert Frost poetry, Dickens
Legal studies

English will be a piece of cake.

Vegemite is delicious!

Okay, since we're friends now I'll play :)

Born in the snowbelt in upstate NY, have stepped foot in all US states except Alaska, have been to Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, The Caymans, the Bahamas & soon Puerto Rico (March). Have lived in NY, California & Texas and love Texas the most. I'm a classically trained artist who no longer paints except for the rare & occasional burst of inspiration. Fell in love and got married very early, still married 21 years later. Have 2 kids, oldest is nearly your age, youngest is 12. I've been dead once, almost dead another time, and I once thought I was going to die. I've seen a lot, felt a lot, heard a lot. I've been destitute, desperate, scared out of my mind and I've also been comfortable, well loved and satisfied. (I wrote this with no paragraphs to weed out the skimmers). I'm not easily surprised, nor am I easily frightened, and I can see a liar from 112 miles away. I've started large fires, both literally and metaphorically and have discovered from that process that things can go crazy in almost no time at all. I've learned that I can be happy in any place at all and that I can be unhappy there as well. The things that fascinate me tend to be the things that most people care little for and as a result of that I have very few friends. I love to study and read about history, pop culture, architecture, industrial design, programming (which I do for a living), eastern and western philosophy and on and on but I know that it's all irrelevant to life which only happens in the 'right now'. I have been wronged much, much more than I have wronged but I still love people as a whole even if my particular set of filters on this universe preclude me from understanding much of what people do. I am but a drop of water in the swelling tide of humanity.

Joreads

Niamh plain chips out of a pack works well but I have seen it done with hot chips:sick:. My sister likes scrambled eggs on toast with Vegie:sick: People are weird when it comes to their vegie let me tell you.

There is only one way to eat it and that is on toast with butter:)

Charm I think you are putting on way to much vegie you only need a small amount.

I've always thought it interesting that some of the traditional aboriginal cloaks in the Melbourne museum are made from NZ possum skin, because possums are protected animals in Australia but not in NZ. In NZ possums are regarded as pests and can be beaten to death by schoolchildren under the direction of their teachers.

Yes,I know, I just thought it interesting because I was in Melbourne for about a week and I saw more possums than I've even seen in my whole life, prancing about over all the trees and grass in the evenings. And I thought that the aboriginal groups must have had certain cultural rights to collect the skins, but that they had to get them from NZ...not that I dislike the animal, mind you.

Haha, and now you have someone you scarcely know pressuring you to get one! :D

Making people laugh is also a great pleasure of mine, but more often than not I burst out laughing before others have a chance to. It's a good thing laughter is contagious! :D Seriously, once my best friend told me a story of when he was on a swing and he flew off backwards---I couldn't contain myself. I laughed so hard that tears were running down my face and my stomach ached horribly.

Oh, and another time the same best friend had forgotten his username to a college website so he made a new one. The new one he made apparently already existed. I burst out laughing when I saw that. It wasn't even funny...I just laughed until tears came to my eyes and my stomach hurt. I tried telling this to my bro, but at my first words I burst out laughing more, and he started laughing just as hard as I was! My friend was dumbfounded...

 most of my last blog entry on my other blog that isn't my litnet one, was about ninjas. And camels. And ninja camels. Then that led to ninja koalas. There was actually a reason for it though :p. Also then I changed the lyrics of some of the songs I was listening to, changing some of the words to "ninja" :p. I laugh a lot too. And I tend to keep laughing waaaay after the joke is over. And I laugh loudly which makes it worse, as then it is very noticable that I am laughing at a joke or something from ages ago

Speaking of laughter, I am also one of those who end up making fool out of themselves due to this habit of theirs. It's so bad with me that on seeing people laughing at something (even though I don't know what they are laughing about) I end up laughing badly. And even more so when people are laughing at something really silly/something serious I burst into laughter on their simplicity. Later at my own simplicity too. :D

Pensive, you and I are the same! I laugh so easily when I see others laughing.

Then, I have another problem: I smile ALOT when I'm nervous!

So, in the past when I've gone for job interviews, I would smile a lot, and they would think that i'm a really friendly person, and all the while I'm freaking out on the inside!!! Isn't that psychotic?!

Heh that reminds me of an interview with my school Principal. All the time I was passing her smiles (it was just natural! I didn't mean to do that) and her first comment about me was 'what a smiling face!'. Sometimes I hope people don't get mistaken by my smile that I am making fun of them. The only place where I can get over my laughter is around some certain sort of brats (guys around whom I feel really uncomfortable). In fact I am so stern there that hardly anybody who knows me enough can guess it's me.
