I'm trying out Thriftbooks.com

I'm currently buying a few books from thriftbooks.com for the first time. I don't know if anyone else has had any experience with them but I haven't seen anything about them and figured 17 dollars for 3 used books wasn't too bad if they are in said condition of "good".

I'll post with a review, as it says the books arrive in 4 - 14 days or so.

How can you get them cheaper on amazon or elsewhere?

The cheapest I have found them on a non trading website is like 10 or 15 a peice. Besides I hoped that since they have a condition status its a pretty safe buy that I'm getting something in the condition I expect.

bookins is a book trading site. They have a points based system so all you have to pay is about five bucks for shipping. Depending on whether or not you want brand new books (and I guess, where you live), you can find stuff on Amazon pretty cheaply. Here's a book I want to buy: Children of Hurin (http://www.amazon.com/Children-Hurin-J-R-R-Tolkien/dp/0547086059/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231192626&sr=8-1), that probably with shipping would cost me eight or nine dollars, used.

Thriftbooks sounds okay I guess. Just don't forget the public library, which carries a heck of a lot of good books, and you can read as many of them as you like, and there's the added joy of knowing that somebody held the book you're reading, when you begin to wonder what they were thinking reading page 32, just like you. ;)

half.com cheapest books i have ever bought. i bought my business communications book from their. the condition was pretty much perfect i got it for a penny and the shipping was like 4.95 or something. the lady spilt coffee on the back page of the book so she wrote me a 5$ check haha so i definitely have nothing bad to say about www.half.com

try your local thrift store. or several. seriously, I have over 500 books, most of them used, and got probably about 300 over the past few years there. and only paid up to about $2 each. :-)

I agree with andave, you can find great cheap bargains on books on Amazon - just click on the 'new and used' link and you will see the various independent sellers. I have gotten many so cheap. I check they have a high feedback and then see what buyers said about their satisfaction/service.

Try your local library, too. Mine clears out books from time to time and I get them free or pay cheap for some, also they sell old VHS tapes for pennies. Thrift stores are great and book markets.
