Yes, it is that time of the year again! Shopping, gift-exchaning, over-eating and... getting older!

Take a deep breath and tell us how old you will be in 2009!

I will be turning 27. A further step towards the expectation of respectability, and probably will be the year I finally learn that my body takes longer to recover from knocks than when I was in my teens. However, still younger than the old fogies of our little world (eg Virg, Claes, Scher etc:lol:)

Congrats to Scher and Claes for approaching some momentous _0's! After seeing the movie, I read the short story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by Scott Fitzgerald and have been re-examining my views of older age. Life really seems too short to worry about your years...in some ways,it undermines the cause for many worries. I hope both of you party down!

Scher, you must be in a hurry now, since as we all know, this will be your last year when you will be eligible for the Fields Medal - the great award for young mathematicians i.e mathematicians who are no older than 40.

As for myself, I will be 21 - which doesn't really mean anything, since I never cared about casinos anyway. Anyhow, for serious math, I am too old anyhow.
See also this, since the forum engine is too much of a prude to allow to link to an absolutely decent image, which's address happens to have s*it in it. (http://xkcd.com/447/)

21 as of Jan. 28th.

I expected that this particular birthday was going to be wild, not-suitable-for-children, not-yet-rated, and thus, to be excellent story-telling material. I expected that on the morning of Jan. 29th, I wouldn't be able to remember anything about the night before.

I remembered quite clearly, however, that on the day of my birthday I woke up, went to class, went to work, and then came home and had a glass of wine while I worked on my essay.

My friends are *still* upset.

Good question Sprinksy. A lot of these demographics are because of those who are internet surfers, the youngish generation. So are internet forums such as this generational or linked with a particular generation? We will have to wait and see. :D

Say, have I posted my answer to this poll? I bet not. ;) Many of you people must know how old I am, though, as I remember stating some months ago. :D Beyond that, I prefer to keep my age a mystery--that is, until my birthday comes around (it isn't very far away, I swear) so I bet you'll have to wait for the day before you'll ever find out

So what can I say? Not very old, though I'll be switching age categories soon. :) Oh fine, I'll be doing so at the end of the month. Ah, won't that be exciting. Wonder what new "freedoms" I'll be earning at the time. :D

Btw folks, what I've read is good news to hear. :) Litnet being teenager-dominated? Hah, isn't that great. That wasn't the state of affairs in the litnet society at the time I came... or maybe I just didn't have any knowledge regarding it.

Actually, I look at it that way, too. I will think that I just turned whatever the age may be. :) Although, for me, it seems that my birthday was always the early one. I tend to turn the older age before anyone else. :(

I always said 19 was the toughest age to be. There is so much that I couldn't do until I was an adult, which meant 18. Then 18 came around and I couldn't do anything until I was 21. But it seemed like 19 was the worst age. I was now an adult but I was kind of stuck. At least when I was 20 I had the consolation of turning 21 in a year. Then I had the complete freedom to do whatever I wanted to do! There were no restrictions anymore. But 19 was just a nothing year for me.

You know I keep screwing up. At some point in the middle of the year I project to the next one. I remember last year on my birthday I swore I was a year older than I was. I had projected the year ahead and then forgot I was projecting, so when my birthday came around I added another year to the projected age. I think I was arguing with Scher here as to what my age was. She knew my real age better than I did. But I was so happy when I found out I was a year younger than I had thought. ;)

 Mayhap it would be safer to stop projecting your age and hire Scher to do it for you

Virgil, I used to do that all the time with my mother and this year I am the opposite. She informed me the other day she is 87, not 86! hahah...cheerup, I am not really 100% sure if today is my son's birthday or tomorrow. My mother said it's tomorrow. He's down the shore on vacation so I am safe till he gets home. Then we can celebrate it with him. Hahah....now I do know this year he is turning 37...haha. My age I can't forget unfortunately...soon to get to that terrible birthday - impossible! :brickwall I'm still a youngster, or so I act it!

I broke my glasses and tonight I am the blind grandma. I just finally located my old old ones - two generations back. Not sure I can wear them, because right eye is awfully blurry; was hoping I would just adjust after a time...dont' worry, don't need them for computer or reading. I guess my prescription did change.
In frantically searching through countless drawers in my bedroom, I came across all of these: about 4 dozen very attractive scarves (hey, they are back in style! Yeah!), about 20 vintage pairs of gloves - very cool looking - even have rhinestone ones and black jet (are these stylish to wear?): approximately 15 pair of either leather or suede or knit winter gloves....now those I never wear - I always forget to take them with me and I hate the feel of gloves even in the winter; two very nice wool ski hats about 10 yrs old, and would you believe this - two pair of wool socks from 1968! They were my ice-skating socks...oh lordy; I do need to donate some of this junk!!! How we do accumulate.

 hha...that's a good one...Yeah...Rhinstone Cowboy! ....they are actually white cotton and rather chic. I also have a pair of black with jet beading - think those are really antiques. I did used to sell these vintage gloves in the antique store; but then I brought all this stuff home and that is why I'm overcrowded; not to mention all the videos and books I have accumulated in the past few years. It's pretty bad!...definitly I am in the pack rat category or heading for it.

Hi. I joined up because I am making the transition from teaching English for 22 years to becoming a writer and educational consultant. I have published a novel and several books of poetry. Please go to my site at jeffersonhansen.blogspot.com for suggestions and help with English class — at the high school or college level. I hold a Ph.D., so I am qualified to work with students at both levels.

I'll be seventeen in a month and a day!
Not awwwfully excited. Having just moved to London there's not such a rush for me to get my license, as opposed to the need to have one in the countryside. Grah. n.n

How old is old? Mmm.
I guess you’re never as old as someone else thinks you are.
This is a big year for me. A milestone as decades go. The big 60.
And, d’ya know, it’s not as bad as you might think. ;)

Don't worry, there are a good number of the regulars who are over thirty. Welcome and don't feel like it's not for our generation. :)

Am 66 & when I have the annual medical back in the UK, the doc always asks:
1. When are you going to stop working?
2. How many times do you go to the bathroom at night?
3. What about your average alcohol consumption?

Its amazing what perceptions of age are reduced to & actually its quite funny.

Answers:
1. When I stop enjoying it.
2. Once.
3. Three vodka & tonics a night. "What! large ones?" "Of course. You cannot taste them otherwise.

George Burns the 90 year old American comedian had the right outlook.
Being interviewed once on TV, was asked. "Well George, what are you doing with yourself now?" Response " Oh I eat good meals, drink good wine & play around with young girls"
" Play around withyoung girls George! Why is that?"
"Because I can't find any my own age"
