I have 10 days left to purchase and pack the most delightful books. I was wondering if you all could kindly suggest your top 3 books that you would take along with you on a vacation.

Thanks.

The best book i've read on holiday was Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence. Plus it made me a friend, an English teacher who saw me reading it.

For me it's:
1. Alchemist by Coelho
2. Trainspotting by Welsh
3. Short Stories by Wilde

I really liked Sons and Lovers...

It really depends on what you're interested in. Once we know that, we can guide you in the desired direction.

In Cold Blood
D.H Lawrence's three novellas, The Fox/Captain's Doll/The Ladybird
and if you want something a little different...
and i mean, really different, check out House of Leaves. Just be warned that if you do, nightmares are sure to follow :)

1. The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky

I second this. This is a great "winter" novel.

War And Peace - Tolstoy
Fathers And Sons - Turgenev
The Brothers Karamazov - Dostoevsky
Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde - Stevenson

They have stood the test of times. These books they can be read a thousand times and still the reader would not be bored. They are not like the 'hotsellers-for-money-making' books of our, this day. They were written with a vision - a dream - a love more greater than love itself.

Thank you all for contributing. My list came down to The Brothers Karamazov - Dostoevsky, Notes from Underground - Dostoevsky, Les Misérables - Hugo, On the Road
by Jack Kerouac, and American Psycho - Bret Ellis. I took one semester off from college to travel and self-reflect. I have become exhausted from the automaton western lifestyle. My growth has stagnated beyond measure, and thus I decided to travel to Africa and Asia. Fortunately, I have been saving for 3 summers of earnings. I want to experience the simpler lifestyle of the developing nations in those two continents. The humdrum of everyday life in America has paralyzed my spirit. I would be dishonest if I chose not to mention that thrill is what I also seek. Ultimately, I have been aggressively longing for liberation and a change in perspectives.

As St. Augustine put it, "The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."

Thank you again.

Wish you all a great New Years !!!
