Happy Belated Birthday, Psyche!
An interview with Psyche:
1 - How did you come about this site and what makes you keep coming back?
I was looking for literary works in public domain and read books here for a couple years before joining the forums.
I've found the forums to be filled with the friendliest, smartest members of any group on the web. That may sound like flattery, but I've never found an online community where members get along as well as we do here.
2 - Have you visited other countries than your own and what did you like about it or not like? If you could live somewhere different from where you live now, where would it be and why?
Sadly, I have never visited outside of the U.S. A friend of mine is touring Amsterdam right now and sending me messages almost daily that are making my head spin with envy.
3 - What are your favorite hobbies ?
Other than reading and writing, I like to be outside. I live in Appalachia which offers a lushly forested, mountainous region for exploring.
4 - Do you have any pets?
I own five Betta fish and an aquarium of Guppies. I consider raising fish to be a bit of a hobby. Breeding the Bettas are great fun, but I don't have much time for it anymore.
5 - What makes you happy?
I am easy to satisfy - waking on a sunny morning often fills me with so much happiness as to seem stupid. I appreciate the little things.
6. What is mankind's biggest achievement, and its greatest downfall?
I may be biased, but I consider the construct of the U.S. to be a human experiment that has been hugely successful.
The greatest seed for our downfall we carry within, and it is destroying the U.S., that is greed and selfishness.
7. If you had a long day of hard work ahead of you what music would you be playing on your mp3, while working?
If I was working at something that took concentration and thinking, I would play baroque or classical music. Anything else distracts me too much.
For physical work I would listen to something I could sing along with like Bob Dylan or Tom Waits.
8. If you could take one book, music album and one video with you to a desert island, what would they be?
A thick anthology, a fully loaded MP3 player, and a home movie.
9. Do you feel comfortable in your walk with God?
Yes. I still have many questions and I am still learning, but the answer is mostly a resounding "yes!"
10. Which actor should play you in a movie based on your life?
Scarlett Johanssen or Renée Zellweger
11.Given the option, what animal would you choose to be?
One that could fly.
12. What were your favorite things to do the past? What about now?
I partied at a blurring pace from about 12 years old until 17. Then I married because I was ready to settle down. I guess I really was ready because I am still happy with my husband and we have produced a large family. The pace of my life has slowed down considerably but it's so good.
13. What activities make you lose track of time?
Surfing the internet, reading a good book
14. What makes you feel great about yourself?
When I conscientiously put the needs of someone else before my own.
15. Who inspires you most? (Anyone you know or not. Family, friends, authors, artists, leaders, etc.) Which qualities inspire you, in each person?
So often a stranger or random acquaintance does or says something that sparks an idea or inspires an action in myself that it is impossible to narrow it down to only one human aspect. I find inspiration everywhere, but it seems to most often come from people.
16. What are you naturally good at? (Skills, abilities, gifts etc.)
I'm not sure, you'd need to ask someone else who knew me. I'm too close to the subject.
17. What do people typically ask you for help in?
Advice! That becomes difficult sometimes.
18. If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Russian Literature. I have been in college forever and the Powers That Be have advised me to seek a degree steeped in American and English Lit. because it is most "teachable." I enjoy it all, but Russian Lit is my true love.
19. What would you regret not fully doing, being or having in your life?
There are many things I want to do or see, but I can't say I would ever regret anything. I guess I am doing what I want to do most.
20. What song is in your head at the moment?
I am songless right now. I think my current struggles with allergies are blocking all the happy song brainwaves.
21. The last book you bought/borrowed from the library?
I recently purchased Swan's Way by Proust and Nana by Zola. It will probably take me years to get into those two hefty books.
22. Which book are you reading at the moment?
I am reading Camus' The Plague mostly. I usually have a few things going at once with short stories sprinkled all 'round.
23. The last book you finished reading?
The Forsyte Saga was the last big book I finished. While reading it I also read the first two Twilight novels and a book investigating the murder trial of Lizzie Bordon.
That's what I mean by having "a few things going at once" in my response to question #22. :)
24. Favorite food?/ Comfort food?
I like full warm foods filled with pork or sausage, but of course I cannot eat that way all the time.
Nothing offers comfort like a warm cup of tea.
25. What time of day do you most often find yourself on the LitNet?
Usually in the morning or when I cannot sleep at night.
26. What are you wearing at the moment?
Slouchy blue jeans, t shirt under a black hoody, no shoes.
27. Favorite poem?
It is difficult to say, but Robert Frost's "Nothing Gold Can Stay" came to my mind immediately.
28. First novel you remember reading on your own?
The Hobbit by Tolkien in 6th grade.
29. Favorite TV shows?
I haven't had TV in years, but I miss Graham Norton and Masterpiece Theatre.
30. Which LitNet members would you like to meet in person if you could?
If I could, I would meet them all. We would feast and have good wine.
31. Favorite post on the Forum?
I don't know, one of mine. :)
32. Favorite thread?
The religion and philosophy sections always have some interesting threads going on.
33. Last food did you have?
Soup
34. Last words you said out loud?
"I love you, too."
35. Last person you hugged/kissed?
My husband kissed me as we parted.
36. What do you do (for a living) to be able to keep your LitNet addiction going? And are you happy with your chosen profession?
I am a full time student who lives off the earnings of her Sugar Daddy.
Someday I hope to contribute something to society that garners wages, and it would be great if I could help others in the process.
37. What question would you like to ask yourself?
What were you thinking?!
38. What would you like to be if you could change your profession?
I don't really want to change, but I would make an excellent coffee barista.
39. Least favorite book/song/movie?
Well, currently I am having trouble understanding the Twilight craze, I don't really like any of the current music, and only rarely does a movie look good enough for me to want to watch. I am a bit out of the pop culture loop, I suppose.
40. The most generous thing you have done?
I don't know, I try everyday, that is all I can do.
41. What is your most outstanding feature?
Do you mean physically? I have a thick head of blonde hair and I am very tall.
42. If you could change one thing about the way you look, what would that be?
I am actually rather okay with how I look.
43. Which book do you wish you had written?
Usually the last book to impress me. As a writer I can wallow in envy of another author's words for long periods of time.
44. What is your favorite book cover?
I have a copy of The Monk that has "Hell" by Bosch on the cover.
45. Most and least favorite characters from books?
Too many to name.
46. What would your biography be titled?
Bubbles
47. What should you be doing at the moment instead of answering these questions?
Right now Christmas is an all-engulfing beast.
48. Wonderful Superman or depressing Batman?
I like Batman because he is human and still super.
49. The most embarrassing moment in your life?
Hmmm, I don't know.
50. Which literary character (s) have you been told to resemble the most?
One born of a jackal. :)
51. List some of the things that annoy you immensely.
Snobbishness
Thoughtlessness
52. Anything that you want to forget but you never can?
Luckily, not really.
53. One final word of wisdom for LitNet users?
Stay safe, hide underground.
54. What would you like to ask to the person to be interviewed after you?
I have not developed the interviewing expertise needed for such a duty.

What a great interview. :) Loved to learn a little about you Psyche. Yes, this is a great forum, and let's give credit to the mods for that. :) I didn't picture you as very tall. How tall are you if you don't mind me asking?
