Ode to a Rose

A rose is a heart
twisted in thorns
strangled from love

It bleeds through
veins of the vine
pulsing with the
wine of life

Balanced between
life and death
only for one moment
bursting into fullness

From there it begins
slowly to fade
sadly if never
it had been sweetly
kissed

Such beauty
designed to be admired
drunken as immortalized
elixir

Ruby drops begin to fall
as if in tears, now turning
to show the coming death
tinged in brown

Until nothing left to show
but memories come and gone
and the hope to have lived
in its glory.
