I just finished reading this book and I absolutely LOVE it!!! Has anyone here read it? What did you think about it? I love the way Coehlo states simple things in such a unique way!:thumbs_up

Read it last year. There are many themes, temptation, greed, abuse of power. I thought the point that he was making, with regards Good and Evil, was that we all have a choice.

I'm sorry. I cannot abide Paulo. :(
I read it when I was 16 and thought that it was swell, the idea of both sides good and bad in one's personality came across as very exciting to me... but the older I grow the more I find it hackneyed... :(.. but the plot and the dialogues were quite charming. However, I prefer Veronika decides to die...

I preferred "The Alchemist" to be honest.

I read it, didn't think much of it. An all-too-obvious allegory. The devil comes to town, people are tempted. It's an old story, and I don't see that this novel brought any new insights. The characters were not memorable.
A disappointment.

To balance all this negativity, my daughter read it and was very impressed. Her reaction was similar to AlexisAlexis'. She lent it me to read and told me it was brilliant.
So there you go.

I enjoyed the book, but the preferred the alchemist much more. I thought the book felt a little uneven. I did enjoy the hidden symbolism in the book. Why was it Miss Prym that the devil reveals this too? Is there a link in the treasure from both the alchemist and this book? Hmmm, one wonders.
