Scaramouche, by Raphael Sabatini, or indeed anything by him.

Treasure Island, or Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson, though you might need a Scots background or a glossary to get some of the brogue in the latter.

Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott.

Or Alexandre Dumas...Three Musketeers for a start.

I love action adventure. My favourites are Sabatini and Stevenson.Stevenson is terrific at describing characters.

Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott.

Will second that one. Loved it.

Maybe “Musashi”, a novel by Eiji Yoshikawa.
It is partially based on the biography of Japan’s greatest samurai, Miyamoto Musashi. There are a lot of great battles, including one between Musashi alone and a band of 50 warriors (which actually happened).
There’s not just blood, though. Musashi was a painter and a calligrapher as well.

It's a pretty long novel. As a shorter option I suggest "The Song of Roland".:thumbs_up
