Twice Told Tale

My father barely even acknowledged me,
Mother love was stiff and stern
I grew up in the grim shadow of poverty,
Learning to live, living to learn
Those whom you place upon a pedestal,
Fall the first time and God, how it causes pain
To know those you placed your faith in have failed—
A childhood destroyed for other’s gain
The road behind can never be walked again,
That which doesn’t kill you makes you strong
Thinking about it doesn’t change one thing,
It matters not whether it was right or wrong
Overcome by my emotions I sat down and cried:
Then I said I had no feelings or regrets—and I lied…
