A NZ band (can't remember the name) sings one called 'Pohutakawa Christmas'. Its all about being at the beach and having barbies at Christmastime.

I like Lennon's War Is Over, and The Fairytale of New York is really nice the first couple of times each year, but the overplay at home is unbearable. I have to say, I'm living in Sweden at the moment, and there is nowhere near the overplay of Christmas music I get back in Ireland. It is really refreshing.

Oíche Chiúin
Oíche chiúin, oíche Mhic Dé,
Cách 'na suan, dís araon,
Dís is dílse ag faire le spéis,
Naí beag gnaoi-gheal ceanán tais caomh
Críost ina chodladh go séimh,
Críost ina chodladh go séimh.
Oíche chiúin, oíche Mhic Dé,
Aoirí ar dtús chuala an scéal,
"Aililiuia" aingil ag glaoch
Cantain Shuairc i ngar is i gcéin
Críost ár Slánaitheoir féin,
Críost ár Slánaitheoir féin.
Oíche chiúin, oíche Mhic Dé,
Mac Dé bhí, gáire a bhéil,
Tuar dá rá 's dá lán-chur i gcéill,
Ann gur tháinig tráth chinn a tséin,
Críost a theacht ar an saol,
Críost a theacht ar an saol.

For Christmas, it all about the crooners. I am talking about Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Vic Damone, Perry Como, Sammy Davis, Nat 'King' Cole and so on. This is what I heard most of the time during the holidays while growing up. So these singers have Christmas written all over them. My top favorites songs aren't on youtube, but here are some others by some of them that I really enjoy:
Dean Martin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91JUOU4-2qU
Vic Damone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il13ABRlSxU
Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XHBbVXZTIE
Frank Sinatra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpPdl0StUVs
Bing Crosby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWjzTAkWLBM (no version compares to this one!)
Andy Williams
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFtb3EtjEic
Then, of course, there are the ones that were just "classics" from when I was a kid.
Paul McCartney
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWuKimtUEas (one of the absolute best ever!)
Wham
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3354flS1KJs :D
Ray Parker Jr
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eFfleW5VCc
Run DMC
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juBEue3L4LE :p
Niamh, I will have to include, on my list here, the version that I consider to be the ultimate "O Holy Night"
Michael Ball
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Q4P7B3Xat0 (I love this song. There were others that I liked until I heard this version - now this tops them all)
***I had to add this one on. I can't believe that I forgot to mention it! This is my favorite choral piece. I listen to it repeatedly. :)

My favorite as well. "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" is up there too... all said and done, I'm still just a good ol' Florida boy at heart.

I LOVE MICHAEL BALL!!!! I was even a member of his fan club for quite a few years! :p The cost of membership went up and that was extra money that I couldn't afford at the time. Maybe I will join again someday. Who knows? :D

I always consider that to be the single most depressing Christmas song EVER! The melody is great, but it is so sad. Then the words are horrible. "Someday soon we all will be together if the fates allow". That is just a downer. But have you ever read the original lyrics to the song? I guess Judy Garland (and the guy that was in the film with her - his name escapes me right now) talked them into changing the lyrics because they didn't think it was right to sing them to a kid like that. Here they are:
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last
Next year we may all be living in the past
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Pop that champagne cork
Next year we may all be living in New York
No good times like the olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us
Will be near to us no more
But at least we all will be together
If the Lord allows
From now on, we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
They are essentially the same, but that "It may be your last" is a little too much, I think.

I love Judy Garland's version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.
I also like Perry Como - I'm listening to The Little Drummer Boy right now. I guess I like it because my mom used to play it when I was little. As far as I'm concerned, Perry Como is the only person qualified to sing Little Drummer Boy.
And I love Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley.
And I HATE Santa Baby - any version. It bothers me.

I'm not a big fan of Christmas but thanks for the youtube Sinatra and Garland versions of Have Yourself a Merrry Little Christmas.
Sinatra is just sublime, as is Judy Garland singing to little Margarette O'brien.
Hollywood sure knew how to wring the heartstrings.

This we agree on Brian Bean. I love the crooners I can add Michael Buble to that list though.
It is Christmas day here and I am "helping" with the new computer my cousin got, and getting in trouble for getting side tracke here. Everyone have a lovely day.

The vandals had some pretty fun Xmas songs:
A gun for Christmas
Families lock their doors in fear that criminals might get them
But this Christmas rest assured that I will have my own protection.
I'll get a gun for Christmas to protect my other gifts
If burgers touch my property they won't leave here with out a limp
Packing heat this Christmas I'll shoot it off on New Year's Eve,
cuz bullets go in outer space when pointed up I believe
A bullet sends a Christmas message that is clear and loud
it says that I will not take all of this bull**** lying down
I'll get a gun for Christmas to protect my other gifts
I'll only tell you once "Stay the **** away from my ****"
I will use my new weapon in self-defense and sport
and to keep the carolers off my god damn porch
and preventing Yuletide homicide's this year
I won't be a victim this year thanks to Santa Clause
Sleeping with no fear of danger, and it's all because
I'll get a gun for Christmas to protect my other gifts
I'll only tell you once "Stay the **** away from my ****"
Christmas needs security , security is weapons.
Vigilante action teaching criminals their lessons
It's the greatest gift we have taking out our rivals
Thank you Santa, thank you God
for guaranteeing my survival
A bullet sends a Christmas message that is clear and loud
it says that I will not take all of this bull**** lying down
I'll get a gun for Christmas to protect my other gifts
I'll only tell you once "Stay the **** away from my ****"
I won't be a victim this year thanks to Santa Clause
Sleeping with no fear of danger, and it's all because
I'll get a gun for Christmas to protect my other gifts
I'll only tell you once "Stay the **** away from my crap
or I'll bust a cap in your ***!!!"
Oi to the world
Haji was a punk just like any other boy
And he never had no trouble until he started up his Oi band,
safe in the garage or singing in the tub.
Till Haji went to far and he plugged in at the pub
Twas a cold Christmas eve when Trevor and the skins
popped in for a pint and to nick a back of crisps
Trevor liked the music but not the Unity
So he unwound Haji's turban and knocked him to his knees
If god came down on Christmas Day
I know exactly what he'd say
He'd say "Oi to the punks and Oi to the skins-
but Oi to the world and everybody wins!"
Haji was a bloody mess, he ran out through the crowd
he said "we'll meet again we are bloody but not unbowed"
Trevor called his bluff and told him where to meet
Christmas day on the roof down 20 Oxford street
If god came down on Christmas Day
I know exactly what he'd say
He'd say "Oi to the punks and Oi to the skins-
but Oi to the world and everybody wins!"
On the roof with the nun chucks Trevor broke a lot of bones
But Haji had a sword like that guy in Indiana Jones
Police sirens wailing, a bloody dying man,
Haji was alone and abandoned by his band
Trevor was there fading and still so full of hate
when the skins left him there and went down the fire escape
But then Haji saw the north star shining more then ever
So he made a tourniquet from his turban saving Trevor
the repelled down the roof with the rest of the turban
and went back to the pub where they bought each other bourbon
If god came down on Christmas Day
I know exactly what he'd say
He'd say "Oi to the punks and Oi to the skins-
but Oi to the world and everybody wins!"
